I currently have a Sony Ericsson T226, using the ATT Wireless service. I want to get the Nokia 3300 phone. If the phone is new and unlocked, do I have to activate the Nokia phone first then insert my ATT sim card. Or do I just take it out of the box and put my sim card in? Do I keep my same phone number? Any help is extremely appreciated!!!!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I cannot swear to anything, but according to my experience with CINGULAR, you can just swap the SIM card, and begin using your new phone. This brings up other points though.

If this change is a permanent one, you should probably have the IMEI number changed to your account.

Second, if the phone was AT&T I think you can safely attempt to swap it out, even for a simple test. We do it at our Cingular (agent) all the time.

If the phone is not AT&T you might run in to something like a SOC lock, or what ever the GSM alternative would be.

Hope this helps.

yeah, just swap the SIMs.

fuego3048 was correct though, if this is a permanent swap you probably want to call up attws and have the imei changed on the account.

I have a new question. My sony ericson broke and I was desperate, so I got a Samsung Go phone. I now am planning on getting a Blackberry 8700c and I was wondering if I can just switch my SIM card from my original phone to the Blackberry?

Also if i decide to get any services for the I PHONE They will ask for the IMEI # and it will not match UH oh.Been there done that before.ATT changed there security SOPs,Very strict not like before they started selling I PHONES.I upgraded so many times with no problem. If the IMEI#s DONT MATCH your out of luck.End of story. Please anwser my question about the sim card change to the I PHONE THANK YOU.

iPhones are a little different than "normal" phones. You have to activate it through iTunes when you get it and the IMEI will be on your account.
