Thanks bjwineglass. Sure enough, there were bent pins at the right end of the power connector. I re-aligned them with a razor blade, and "car kit" disappeared.

Hey everyone, I just tried this trick on my LG VX9800 and it worked. I had the Car Kit message and took my little swiss army knife and scraped off the pins in the charging port. My phone turned off and I didnt even realize it. I then pulled the battery out, put it back on and it fired right up. Complete sounds, the mic worked, the ear piece works, perfect. Its charging now and should be fine. Thanks again!!!

i dropped my phone in the snow and it was stuck on car kit. people could call but it wouldn't ring and you couldn't hear them if you answered. i called verizon and they put me on hold for a while then said they would call back. In the mean-time my awesome friend looked up how to fix it here
we found bj's whole touch the pins on the right with something metal
totally worked
thanks
i really can"t believe this actually worked[/quote]

I recently purchaced the verizon vx4500. Within a week it got stuck in car kit mode, without even getting wet. I read all the fixes but they seemed to intense for me. So I tried this:
1. Plug your phone into the wall charger while its power is on.
2. Turn off the phone.
3. Wait 30 seconds.
4. Turn the phone back on.
5. Disconnect your phone from the wall and test.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 if this did not work the first time.
This worked for me. I hope it will work for you.

okay. so i know im really late on this and what they said was posted about a year ago but.
i got a new phone yesterday.
and today and started doing all sorts of weird crap. and it got stuck on car kit some how and i couldnt get it off.
so i looked up how to get it off and i saw that guy that said that you can poke around in the portal to get it off.
well i started doing that way before i even thought to look this up.
and when i read that it got me to try again and it actually does work.
i duno how, but it does.
my phone was one day old, how pathetic is that?

What I did was take two pieces of Tin Foil and put them in the charging area and touch them together. The Car Kit has gone away.
Only problem is, after I take it off the charger, the phone shuts off. But, it's not that bad.
At least I can hear people

I answered my phone right out of the shower (stupidest thing ever) and it got relatively wet. I used BJ's trick and within half a second it was off carkit, i didn't even have to restart it.
THANKS!
