I had the same problem and this is what I did:
1. I scraped out the ports on the charger
2. I blew it out with one of those Gas dusters.
The combination of the two worked! I'm back in business!
God bless the Internet!

Thought I should add my 2 sense worth.
My 1 year loves my phone and gets hold of it any chance she gets. The first couple of times my phone got stuck on car kit mode, I simply used foil or a fork tine (gently) at the bottom, took the battery out, replaced it, and started the phone. This worked well.
This last time nothing worked. I tried all the mentioned suggestions and was just about to leave to get a new phone. I thought I had nothing to lose, so I took the back of the phone (unscrewed and pried it off) and noticed the green corrosion damage. I carefully used a needle to "scrape" it clean, wiped everything down, restarted the phone - and this time it worked. Granted, this was a day after the phone stopped working.
Apparently, over time the component began to corrode. Removing the corrosion damage is the key in many cases.

ive tried everything. the needle, pin, holding down the *, tried all the different codes and even opened it up and cleaned everything down to make sure there is no corrosion. the only thing that has been working for me is keeping foil on those last two prongs but if that foil moves at all it gets f'd up instantly. ive dusted the ports on the charger and wiped it down with rubbing alcohol and still no success. theres no prongs touching but im afraid to scrape them for corrosion because i dont want to mess them up. just wanted to know if theres anything else that i can try or do to fix this problem because im tired of walking around with foil as bling on my phone. thnx in advance

last night I read this forum and was thoroughly entertained! It was hilarious to watch that know it all bi-atch fall quickly to the ground.its a good lesson in pride. well I wanted to contribute to her know it all-ness (although there is probably no chance she comes back to this seeing as it must be so humiliating) but it also worked for me! I just slid the scissors across the pins.they weren't bent or anything, but it turned off the phone and when I turned it back on.it was off carkit mode! I was so excited! thanks a TON!

i just recently got a new lg phone and as usual i automatically started looking for trouble with the phones and service, then i stumbled upon this thread.
i haven't had any problems with it as of yet but i did get it wet an it went bezerk like most phones do, when this happened i just turned it off and let it sit for a while and it dried out. i have never liked verizon wireless to begin with so kudos for handling that so called vzw prin cess for all the rest of us and everybody have a good night

ok this was great solution! but, it did not work for me for more than a few seconds at a time. i had some battery terminal cleaner (specifically for corrosion) in a can for vehicles, i squirted a quick blast into the charging port let sit for a m inute and blew it out with a blow tip on an air compressor. this is the "shop" version i guess haha. well it worked. thanks
