just wanted to thank bjwineglass for his post. i was able to save my verizon phone that was almost ruined from the rain. i turned it off, removed the battery, stuck a screwdriver into the charger prongs and carefully jiggled it for a few seconds. when i put back in the battery and powered it on - the sound was working again and it no longer said "car kit". thank you so much for this tip. i hope it doesn't act up anymore, but so far so good.

bjwineglass, you are the best! My wife's Verizon LG phone decided to change to car-kit for no reason. It did not get wet. However, this was a refurbished phone that she purchased after her original phone's microphone stopped working. So it might have been water damaged at some point. There was a lot of "gunk" around the charging port, so I used compressed air to blow it out. Then I put a tiny screwdriver into the charging port and touched the right two pins together and "vola" it changed back to Vib & High. You saved me from purchasing another phone!
