My built-in infrared device doesn't work with my GSM Samsung C100 under Windows XP + Service Pack 2.
I have an infrared device, which is connected directly to the motherboard. It works properly under Windows XP, but when I install Service Pack 2, I can't connect my Samsung to PC. Windows indicates that there is a device in range - an icon appears in system tray and it shows me the model of my GSM. When I try to connect my GSM to PC using specialized software (Samsung Phone Manager, EasyGPRS), this software blocks - "not responding", and I can't close it unless I move my GSM and press "End task". But there aren't any problems with Nokia and Logo Manager!!!
Please, help me!!! What's the problem???

If you are experiencing difficulties with your adapter after installing service pack 2 for Windows XP, please uninstall the driver for your USB-IR adapter and then reinstall the driver(try to download the lastest drivers from the website).
In some instances Windows SP2 may not install itself correctly and reinstalling the driver for the USB-IR adapter will not correct the problems you are experiencing. If this happens, please uninstall Windows SP2, reinstall SP2, and then install the driver for your USB-IR adapter.
this should solve the problem.

Thanx for quick reply.
I have already tried by reinstalling Windows XP ( SP2). the problem was same in SP1 also.
I am using MA620 irda. installed latest drivers. even used other irda as trial. i think there is some problem with the software EasyGPRS.
is there any other software available for C100 ( samsung)?
is there anything like phone explorer for C100 ??

Did you changed the Com port to IrDa in EasyGPRS at maximum speed? That might be your problem.

The Samsung Phone Manager ain't work. The problem is not the applications, but the SP2. Here is the solution:
The main problem is the 'Standard modem over IR Link' driver of the SP2. It's erroneous and doesn't work with some of the Samsung phones (I think not all models, but with my C100 it's sure). So you need to replace this driver after SP2 install (or just simply uninstall SP2 - this resolves the problem too). The driver filename is 'msircomm.sys' and it is located in '$WINDIR$\system32\drivers' folder. You have to replace this file with an older one (for example from the install CD of a WinXP w/o SP2. The file is located in a compressed .CAB file (named 'driver.cab') in 'I386' folder). Okay, but this is a bit difficult because WinXP has a built-in system file-protection mechanism, so if you just simply overwrite the original file, the system will automatically restores it:( It takes more time to explain how to avoid this protection, so if you don't know how to do, please look after over the net. I think, there are many excellent articles and tutorials about this topic (just talk to Google )
