hagen, let me know if you work out the bug in windows xp. I was running 2000 pro on my computer, and I couldn't get it to work. I just upgraded to xp the other day.
UPDATE: I have another computer running windows 2000 pro. I tried Hagens idead and it did the same thing. am convinced now, I either have a problem with the cable or the phone itself. I have a new cable on the way.
When it detects a new usb device, it doesn't give me an option in install my own driver, and when I do try to install the p2k driver, it says windows found a more suitable driver in the c://winnt/inf folder.

How about go into device manager and delete your modem then open MPT with the fone plug in let it reintall and rediscover you modem again remember if it ask for driver point in to MPT it self.

I had the same problem. I tried first connecting on my USB 2.0 terminal. Didnt work gave me the same message as yours. I switched to USB 1.1 which is integratd on the motherboard. It works fine there. You might try to the same.

Delete your modem, unplug fone, reboot. fone plug in window will ask for driver point to your MPT don't fire up MPT just yet go to device manger look to see if your modem is there( fone have to be plug in order to see modem) if it's there click on it then property should tell u what com port it's in. Now if it have yellow ? on that mean is not working right in property there is option for you to update driver use that and select specify location then point to MPT
