Nowe click on that you take you to the fone modem, you should see few taps there try the reinstall driver or driver update click on that it will now update your driver remember to choose the select specify location then point it to yout MPT folder, try that and keep posting

I'm just as fed up as you are and then some. The only thing left to do is either another PC with USB and XP and or another Phone and finally another Data Cable.
Mine worked for ten minutes!

Hi guys,
I got a V185 last week and unfortunately im having the same problems with the USB that Pangderx was reporting. When i plug the phone on the PC, windows says :
..."Unknown USB device"...."USB Device not recognized"..."One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it"
The wierd thing is that the 1st time that i connected the phone to the PC it recognized the phone as Motorola Phone V185 and asked for drivers and i cancelled the driver installation, cuz i dont have the MPT installed yet (still downloading...). But after i disconnected the phone, windows would not recognize it anymore!
I think that this problem is NOT A DRIVER PROBLEM, since windows MUST DETECT THE DEVICE ASK FOR DRIVERS...
note: im using WinXP SP2 with a A7N8X-Deluxe Motherboard.
Pangderx, did you fixed your problem ??

Ok guys open your MPT with fone plug in. It's won'r work but that's ok. Hit cancel and few second a generic fon picture will pop up on your desk top, now click on the menu icon of that fone picture ( the top midle with 3 bars) there should be a drop down choose setup you should see live update click that update to latest verson 3.19e . Ifyou already have the 3.19e now there is a general setup F6 click on that , choose comunication tap---modem exchange--wizard of install new modem... choose " don't detect my modem i'll choose it from list"---Now on your left find motorola GSM on you right find you fone model click on that --ok --finish. Re run MPT it's should work now it'better work it's have to work . DGood luck

Ok . I found the problem...
Believe or not, there is a bad contact on the connection between the phone and the cable... sometimes it works, sometimes dont... completely random. I found a post at comunidad-motorola relating the same problem, and that guy solved it using a elastic rubber to put more pressure on the connection... so i did the same and my problem is solved. Of course that i did not used that elastic rubber. I got a wire cutter and bended the metal edge of the connector, so now the connection is more tight...
Simplifying, the cheap generic cable that i bought just craps.
I think that this would help somebody,
Regards,
