I have been trying to get this to work for 3 days now and no luck. I just got the v400 on Friday, and I bought MPT from Motorola on Friday night. I installed MPT and updated it to the latest version. which is v2.21f (the BVRP website says the latest update is 2.21b)
Anyway, I am all updated and the program tells me to connect my v400 and it will detect and setup for me. I do and windows says this:
"New hardware found"...."installing your new Hardware"...."Your new hardware has been installed and is ready to use"...all the while the little clock on the MPT is still spinning.
The windows says this..."Unknown USB device"...."USB Device not recognized"..."One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it"
I have spoken to Cingular, who I got the cable from, and they knew nothing, since it is a Motorola cable.
I then spoke to Motorola for an hour today and he came to the conclusion that the cable is bad, and I need to send it to them and get a new one.
Could it be the phone? I read that some other guy here had the same problem. Does this happen often, has it happened to anyone?
What do you think? I am at my wits end here.thanks

Have you used a different driver for your data cable?

I useed the driver you sent me, and it still does the same thing. I am having no luck here. I am starting to think that it may be a problem with the phone itself. It is really starting to get irritating.
What did you do with the driver duc? Did you just plug in the cable and then install the driver and it worked fine?

Try this link when the site is up again. It is down right now.
http://www.silverspecter.com/vxxx.htm
As for me, I believe I installed the mpt first the 1.23 then the 2.16 and I load the program and do an update.
Next, I plug in the cable with the phone on. It ask for the drivers. I manually directed it to it. I think there are about 5 or 7 drivers it ask for. It may take a few minutes to install it all.
After that, I start up the program and follow it. I know the software and driver give some peeps problems. I know I had to do mine couple of time as well. Sorry I could not remember the exact steps. Hang in there. Once you have it. You will want to do many things to the phone besides downloading wallpapers and ringtones.
NOTE: I read somewhere that the SP2 service pack install in XP box may cause it to not install properly. I unistall it if you have it. Just a thought. Let me know if you have other questions.

well, even though I bought MPT, I did what you said you did. My problem is, when I plug in the phone, The add new hardware wizard doesn't compe up. It automatically says "USB Device not recognized"..."One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it"
By the way, this not only happened on my computer running win xp sp2, but also another computer running windows 2000 pro.

Did you also upgraded 2.6 and updated the software? You need to install 1.23 and then the 2.6.

What version of MPT are you running? Have you perform an update as well?

When I bought it, I came as version 2.21b, which I updated to version 2.21f. When I did it your way, I installed v 1.23, then installed v 2.16. No matter what I do, it does the same thing.
Motorola told me it is probably a bum cable, but who knows.
