Hello,
I have a Samsung SGH-X426 that is not operating because it says, "Phone locked return for servicing." Why does it say this? Because I entered this code: #0111*00000000#.
I have read that the only way to correct this problem is to re-flash the firmware. Here are my questions:
First, which data cable do I need to do this? Do I need the PCB093LBE OEM cable? Does that cable have a switch? I am guessing the switch is important.
I have a USB data cable, but if I need a switch, then I can't flash the firmware without the correct cable, right?
I have downloaded various tools from http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/s/j/sjs342/ and so far I haven't been able to successfully restore this phone to an operating state.
I highly suspect the data cable.
Is there anyone here who has ever had this problem and is there a solution?
Is the information here good?

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. My phone does not work!

Unfortunatly, I beleive your screwd if I remember, and someone correct me if I am wrong. When that message appears the phone can only be unlocked by the service provider. you may be able to use cerebro's. I am however unfamilar with the software. Check for post from Roswell he should know the answer. He offers the software on his site.

So I decided to play around with a Samsung SGH-X426 and I decided I would try some of the programming codes. The one code I tried that locked my phone was #0111*00000000#.
DO NOT USE THE ABOVE CODE ON THE SAMSUNG SGH-X426. IF YOU DO, IT WILL LOCK YOUR PHONE. THE PHONE WILL SAY, "PHONE LOCKED RETURN FOR SERVICING."
Using that code was a mistake. The unlock code that is commonly known, #9998*3323#, does not work on the X426 with software version 1.6. You can check the software version by using this code: *#9999#.
I have finally found a solution.
If you have a Samsung SGH-X426 that has been locked in this way, then the following procedure will work. Specifically, if your X426 has the error message, "Phone locked Return for Servicing", then the following instructions may be of some use.
The program you will need is Optiflash 3.6.
You will also need the firmware for the Samsung SGH-X426.
Both items can be downloaded from:
http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/s/j/sjs342/
You will need a USB data cable for the X426 which is the same cable for the E105. This will be the cable that is from Prolific.
The trick to getting this to work is to use the correct driver for your USB data cable. I have tested this with driver version 2.0.0.26 under Windows 2000 and it works.
To access the driver download page go to:
http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/v_fileBrw.asp
Click on downloads.
Go to the search window and type "2303" without the quotes. You should have something close to 16 results. Chances are good that one of these drivers will be the one you need for this.
Also, have a look at:
http://forums.mobiledia.com/viewtopic.php?t=11187&highlight=prolific+d river
Chances are it is not a problem with cable, but it is probably an issue with the driver you are using.
After you think you have installed the correct driver, follow these instructions:
Plug in your USB data cable and let Windows auto-detect the cable. After the cable has been detected, it should be assigned to a COM port. To find out which COM port it is using, click Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager. Then expand Ports (COM & LPT). You should see a listing for Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COMX). The "X" in "(COMX)" will be a number. That is your COM port number for the data cable.
Once you have the COM port number, it is a simple matter to run Optiflash 3.6 and configure it to the correct COM port and flash the firmware on the phone. The file to flash will be the .SRE file that is contained in the zip archive which can be found at: http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/s/j/sjs342/
If you manage to totally screw your phone up after this, then you may wish to consider checking out the Universal Samsung Tool, which can be viewed at http://www.gsmhacking.com
I should mention that I have successfully returned my X426 to a working state by using the instructions above. At the time of this writing, I have never used the Universal Samsung Tool, but I have been successful with the Optiflash program.
Have fun and good luck.

UST is more trouble than help. I have delt with it before and it tends to error out or not sucessfully do much of anything. Cerebros does all the same things, but has a much higher success rate. The trick to unlocking is to write down your IMEI, type it in in cerebros and act as though you are changing it (although it is the same number). After this completes, you take out your battery, put it back in, and unlock your phone. In the process, this should "reset" your passwords. I will test this tonight and get back to all of you.

Roswell,
I was able to flash my X426 with the firmware from your site, but I have been UNSUCCESSFUL changing the IMEI back to the original.
I tried Cerberos but no go. Says it worked, but same IMEI after reboot.
Could it be my cable. I have a OEM samsung I bought of ebay, but I'm thinking it's the wrong version. PN is PCB093LBC
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Make sure you have selected the q100 (works for x426) and that your phone is on when you proceed.

I was (am) using the Q100 setting. I wasn't sure if I had the phone on or off so I just tried again with it ON - same result (no change in IMEI).
I just ordered the PCB093LBE cable off ebay - I'm thinking that must be the problem. I ordered this cable (PCB093LBC) from a seller in China - it might be different enough not to unlock (but I have flashed a couple of phones with no problem).
I'll post again when I try the new cable... Unless you have any other suggestions...
Thanks for your help!
