I would like to buy a cell phone from Cingular, and bring it back to Hong Kong. But I know all Cell phone has sim lock, so user cannot use other sim card form other service provider. So how can I unlock the sim lock?
Do i just call Cingular? Does it has any requirement, like use their service for at least 2 months.....
Thanks

Usually, you need to complete the terms of your contract to get the unlock code. Otherwise, there are several services on-line that will unlock your phone for you (usually $10-25). SIM lock is different than the phone being locked - phone being locked means you can only use the company that sold you the phone's SIM cards. Sometimes, its also known as a subsidy password, b/c the providers subsidize the phone in exchange for your agreement to buy service from them for the next year or two.

nope nope nope.. dont wanna do that... first of all the Samsung X427 is only 850/1900 GSM..... the frequeny used over in HongKong is 900/1800.
So the X427 would not work in Hong Kong..

...there's no 850 or 1900 spectrum in Hong Kong? I know I used to be able to use my TDMA phone 850/1900 there, but I heard recently the HK gov't may revoke the TDMA license, as subscribership had dropped to around 30K lines.
I looked on GSM World for the providers in HK, and didn't see any of them listed with 850/1900 service - all were listed at 900/1800. If the site is correct (I have no reason to believe it isn't), the last post is correct - you would need a tri or quad band phone to work over there.

Lg L1200 supports 850/1800/1900, and the Motorola v400/600 support all 4 bands. Also the motorola v220 supports 850/900/1900

I have the X427 from Cingular in the States (US), but want to use it with other service providers in Brasil and Chile. That way, I can still use Cingular, but also have two other providers (where I travel frequently), but use only one phone (with three chips, right?). Can someone tell me how to do this? Please email. Thank you,

In order to use a non-Cingular SIM in a Cingular subsidized phone, you need an unlock code. If you served the terms of your contract, Cingular should provide you the unlock code. Otherwise, check sites on-line for unlocking. I'm not sure about the Samsungs, but I know you can get a Nokia or Motorola unlocked for $5-20 per phone. Once unlocked, any company's SIM will work - then you're only restricted to frequencies.
