I have an LG VX3300 that was issued to me at work for recall (military) and I had this happen to me a couple of weeks ago. It lasted for a day and a half or so and then went away. A few days later it came back and has been that way for nearly two weeks now. Today I contacted the officer in charge of the phones and he automatically treated me as if I got the phone wet, I don't even need snotty sales persons to presume I am guilty, the military did it for me!
I searched the we and found this discussion. I noticed that my moisture indicator is still clear (which proves that I didn't get it wet). So I dedided to look for corrosion on the charger connections. Upon closer inpection I found one of the pins was bent! I must have bent it when plugging it in one day. Figuring that was the problem I went to straightening it out and turned it back on, now it is all back to normal.
I assume all the people who have done the plug in, unplug shuffle are really just either straightening the pins or scraping off corrosion. The powering off and on of the charger is just coincidental. Of course, that is jsut for those with bent or dirty pins.

ah, well i dropped my LGVX8300 in the toilet. i saw it and grabbed it as fast as i could. i took the back off and the battery out and used my hair dryer on it for a bit. i made sure all visible areas were as dry as possible. i then noticed my phone went into -CAR KIT- mode. i tried blowing into open spots on the phone to dry it and left my battery out for awhile. the -CAR KIT- mode went away but now the battery dies as soon as i take the charger out.
if i bought a new battery, would it work then?
or is it just my phone?!?!

I dropped my LG in the kitchen sink for less than one second. Called Verizon they said take it in to have it "Flashed"--took it in, they laughed and said they couldnt. They told me to put it in the fridge, I did. Nothing! Came here and tried all the codes, sat in the car and tried to car charger, it would take the message off for a few seconds. Came back inside---thought what the heck---stuck gym clip in charger area and WOW------IT WORKS!!!!! ((((Oh yeah Verizon told me last night I had insurance with a $50 deductible, I get there today and the guy says he doesnt know why she told me that because I dont have insurance!!!))))
Good LUCK To all you CAR KIT people!

I dropped my phone in the bath tub today and kept getting the dreaded "car kit" message. I tried so many of the solutions on this site but saw one about aluminum foil so I tried it and it actually worked: I took the battery out, stuck some foil at the bottom so it touched both connections points, put the battery back in and tried to turn it on. Nothing.....then I took the battery and foil out and put the battery back in again without the foil and viola! Now I have a working phone again. I have no idea how it worked and it sounded dumb but I am glad I tried it.

After trying all sorts of stuff listed in this post, the code stuff at the beginning, taking it apart and blow drying, scraping corrosion, what finally worked was plugging it into my car charger and then turning the car on, it worked instantaneously. I think it just needed a charge sent to the battery. But it works now, let's hope it lasts.

Hope one of these fixes will work for you. Cleaning the pins carefully with pin in out not sideways and blow drying followed by connecting charger (home) fixed mine for a minute then it was back. I connected the charger 2 more times, and then walla...it's been working for 2 hours. Hope it's fixed.
Whoops, spoke too soon, two hours later Car Kit came on again. Tried the aluminum foil approach by tearing of a square piece big enough to fit across all the charger pins. With the flip closed and the camera facing me, I put the foil in on top of all the pins, and bent it down slightly. Then I put the home charger over the foil. At first nothing, but then I wiggled it slightly from side to side and Blip..Car Kit disappeared.
Now that it's fixed, does anyone know where to get the little rubber boots we all discarded when we first got the phone. I know I thought to myself, "oh yaea I'm going to be able to fiddle with this thing each time I go to charge the phone."
Why didn't they make a flap type black rubber connector cover so it would always be atached to the phone?....Oh yeah, then we would be less likely to "ruin the unit and send it into Car Kit mode. Nice way to treat your customers Verison. I've now added you to my list of places that try to rip you off to make a buck.
One poster said that "just replace the battery and it will come with a new pink xxx sticker on the bottom...but the phone has one too. A little round dot that should have an xx on it, but may be all pink if it got wet. Verison will pick up on that in 3 seconds.
Oh, I wonder if we can get any of those pink xxx stickers to replace the all pink ones now that the unit is working again. It must not be water damaged if it's now working so we should be able to replace the sticker...anyone?

First, my phone was NEVER wet, never damp, indoors 98% of the time and never dropped. Also, never charged or used in car. Yet I had the car lock. Tried all suggestions including tin foil, finally had success with a steel paper clip inserted in the right side of the port under the rubber took six tries until it dropped the car lock (so keep trying). I and my former staff have had close to two hundred cell phones. This cell phone is an unadulterated piece of junk, great screen, but not much use with lousy reception, dropped calls (even within 200 feet of the Pentagon).Everyone's cell phones work around the Mall and the Pentagon, except mine and my wife's LGs. If you buy one, be afraid, be very afraid.

well, i spilled water on my vx5200 last night and I have since been reading all these online suggestions. Right after it happened I used a blow dryer and dried everything out. I've also tried the tin foil, paper clip, and sticking the charger in and out. I've also tried Blade's solution and resetting the phone to original settings. I don't have a car charger so I can't try that. None of the pins near the connecter are touching and/or damaged. I haven't taken my phone apart of tried the CaCl beause:
1- I am able to send AND recieve text messages. absolutely fine.
2- My phone RINGS when people call me, BEEPS when I connect/disconnect the charger, and my ALARM goes off... but it DOES NOT have keybeep or text alert.
I do have insurance, but I am due for a new phone in two weeks and do not wish to spend $50 on a crappy phone anyway.
WHAT CAN I DO? I feel like my phone has more functions than most people who have posted in here....but I still can't talk on it or hear anyone talking to me. help!!

Thanks for all the advicde. DOn't know how my phone got wet, but acording to VZW it did...
Tried the codes, the foil, attempted to take it aart but I'm not sure they make a screwdriver that small. Finaly blew it out with some compressed air and it has been working okay for a bit. If it goes back into car kit mode, I'll try the hairdryer method (provided I can find one).
Thanks again, I don't think I'll ever buy another LG phone again. I treated my old Nokia like trash, and it never missed a beat.
