Hey, so I dropped my phone in some water earlier today and the car kit mode went on. I took out the battery, dried it, and it was still there. I eventually end up just banging my phone on a pillow and shaking it and the car kit disappeared. However, a little while later my screen on the phone started screwing up. The phone works but the screen is all pushed up to the top and half of it is white. I have a VX6100, has this happened to anyone? and how do you stop it?

My phone died, and when I went to charge it, it said, "CAR KIT" on the screen when I turned it back on. I did everything, took the battery out, did that whole "code" thing--nothing. And I sure as hell wasn't going to buy a new phone. I used a make-up tool, (yes, I am a girl) a mini brush of some sort. I brushed the crap out of the adapter plug of the charger, blew all the dust out when finished, then I brushed the crap out of the hole on my phone that it plugs in to (adapter jack) and blew the dust out of that. Then I powered my phone down, turned it back on, and voila--no more "CAR KIT" on my screen. Hope this helps!

If Verizon wants to be fair about this, they should direct people with the Car Kit problem to this site. Failure to do so simply demonstrates a lack of concern about customer satisfaction. I had 2 months downtime with car kit problem, then my phone started working again. Verizon had been no help at all. When it stopped again, I found this site, and it is working again. The tinfoil trick seemed to work, but I had to leave the tinfoil in place. I then tried plugging it repeatedly into the charger with the charger plugged in, and that seems to have also worked.
Given that Verizon did not even suggest to me that I might save $200+ dollars, I will be trying very hard to leave their service at the end of my 2 years signup. Even $50 would have been too much to spend, given the number of people who have had this problem, and the comparative ease with which it can often be solved!

life was all fine.. no complaints. then this "-car kit-" appears on my cell. and then I realise I've missed 12 calls.
But I think I am smart.. I power cycle my cell. still there..
final plan, reset it back to factory settings.. that always works, does it not?
well no!!
Then I find this site and an so excited. Man has finally conquered m/c!!
Eagerly I go over all these posts with success stories..
Tried blades instructions, tried paper clip, foil, dryer.. AAARGHH!
almost gave up.
decided to sleep with a frown. then one of the samaratians here mentioned try pressing the charger towards the right corner. Well I stuck my tin foil there and the Car Kit message WAS GONE.. as if it was never there.
tell you new comers.. try this. be patient. try it a few mins. with breaking the pins inside or destructing the cell. I gotta admit I wanted to just go replace it and had it been daytime, I'd probably would have too.
good luck and thanks to gurus who have contributed!!
happy holidays..

this is how i fixed my vx6100
1. I took out the battery and put in the charger and waited for the Blue BATTERY REQUIRED screen.
2. without taking out the charger i put in the battery and turned my phone on
3. the phone was still in -car kit- mode and i made a phone call and it started worked fine. when the call was over there was no -car kit- and my phone works fine now

I have an LG 8300 I think..something like that. I dropped it in the sink while I was doing dishes. Anyhow...thank god I found your site. I did the codes to no avail. I did the tinfoil trick and voila! So I make a call, I talk for about 5 minutes....and the phone shuts off on me! I turn it on..and the "car-kit" is back! I then peruse some more posts in this thread and find out I should probably at least try drying out the keypad and the charging port on the cell phone. After I removed the battery I blasted the charging port for about 20 secs with heat from my hairdryer....same with keypad. I then turn it on.....and proceed to do the Codes mentioned here....and it is working like new. I think the key is getting it dry...then you can use either the codes or the foil method and it will get rid of the dreaded "carkit"...and you should be good to go if the damage was not too severe. Also look and make sure there is no corrosion on the contacts of the charger port... My next step was to open it up and dry the inside out.
Verizon is a bunch of vile skumbags. They know how to fix them...but why do that when they can have us spend 200 and up on a new one..then FIX AND RECELL our old ones using the same methods discussed here.
They should all burn.
Good Luck to all of you.

Car kit mode is for a car adapter. You do not set a setting on your phone to get into car kit mode. Your phone atomaticly detects car kit adapters. the adapter uses the two right wires on the connecter. If your phone says "car kit" that is because the two right wires are touching.
Follow thees steps to fix your phone
1. Take out the battery!
2. Put your fone rightside up (so you can see the keybord or front screen)
3. Get a thin neadle
4. the two right are touching so use the neadle to seperate the wires
5. Put the battery back and turn on your phone
This will work
If it dosent try doing theese steps with you phone turned on so you can see when it turns car kit of
Im pretty sure the phone wont break, because I did it turned on it Helps A Lot!
Be Very Gentle!

I finally opened up my 2 year old LG vx6100 stuck in "Car Kit" mode after trying all the keypad/charger solutions listed here. The phone has surely been exposed to somre degree of moisture over it's lifetime. However, the interior was not wet at the time but I noticed some corrosion around the leads coming from the charging port, probably just moisture from living life as a cell phone I guess. Anyway, it was dry and so I scrubbed the corrosion away gently with a toothbrush and they appeared much cleaner. I also did this briefly inside the charging port. It powered up fine and stupid "Car Kit" was long gone thank god! I feel like it is even functioning better than before.
The hardest part was having to run to the store to buy a tiny screwdriver set for $5. If you already have one that can take your phone apart do it right now and clean up the leads in there.
Thanks for all the info at this site so I never had to deal with any Verizon people.

I had the same issue with Car Kit -- since it is not even 9am here -- I didn't try plugging my phone into the car, but I did try Blade's code as well as the others. Nothing worked...that is until I took out the battery for the upteenth time put it back in and viola it works!!! I am not sure which code did it, but THANK YOU I am bookmarking this forum!!!

I've been trying a few of the tips here but none of them have been working. It looks like most of the people on this site had a different LG phone than me than. Has anyone been able to fix it with an LG X5200? Or have any specific tips for that phone?
