My phone did not get wet and wasn't even near any water source, but it has been cold here so I thought maybe there was some condensation. However NOTHING WORKED. Of course I didn't want to take the phone apart. So I plugged in the charger and wiggled it. I finally found a position that made the car kit light go off. . and then I firmly pushed the charger in that direction. It worked.

Any suggestions for my next phone make?

First off, I came to this forum to find a solution to the car kit problem. Jiggling the battery charger worked for me, so thanks a lot for that advice.

It's amazing how this "car kit" isn't even mentioned in the instructions manual.

Still, I have another problem. There is a white light blub (underneath the camera phone) that won't shut off. Whether the phone is open or closed, it still stays on. Anyone else have that same problem? Is there anything I can do? Not only is it annoying, but I think it's draining the battery.

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for their experiences with and advice to fix the car kit problem. Many remedies I tried were not successful (aluminum foil insertion, hair dryer, resets) - at least not for an extended period, but the use of compressed air has been helpful, as I haven't seen the "Car Kit" problem in three days now.

Many props to the forum for providing much need guidance.

I tried many of the things listed in the posts. What finally worked for me was checking the little pins in the port for the car charger. I really couldn't see any pins that were bent or crossed or touching, but I took a metal nail file and scraped along the pins. I could hear the phone switching from Car Kit to regular and back again. I kept scraping with the metal nail file until the phone stopped switching and stayed in regular mode. Sure enough, once it stayed in regular mode, I could see where a pin had been crossed and touching another and now was straightened. I think that the LG phones pretty much are garbage as far as this problem goes. Further, I think that LG should recall the phones and make this problem go away. From the number of posts, I can see it's a fairly wide-spread problem. And, despite insistency by "phone techs," that the vast majority of the time, that this problem is from getting your phone wet, I have to wonder how many other people out there had a similar situation as mine, which had nothing to do with moisture whatsoever. Thanks to everyone for all their posts, which led to a successful "fix" for my husband's phone, which hadn't worked in several weeks. BTW, we also took the phone to an Alltel rep and they also said it was from getting wet and that we needed to replace it, so it's not just Verizon that tells people this. Good luck, everyone.

I'm don't have anything new to say, but I wanted to post just to add yet another person to the list of "car kit" victims. Fortunately for me, I decided to check here before calling verizon. I did most of the suggestions on here, and several times each. Finally the paperclip caused my phone to smoke, and finally it worked. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone, and tell all those who are struggling to keep trying. My phone was probably water damaged (10 month old chewed it!) but in the end, it was crossed prongs I think. I was so sure it was moisture, I didn' try the pong cross over things as first. Best wishes to all.

Have a LG 8100. All of a sudden car kit mode came on. Not aware of getting it wet. However there was a piece of lint near charger contacts. Follwed Blade's instructions for the LG 6000 I think. Was same on my phone except for the FCC step. Also ended up with a different # than Blade had. At any rate - didn't appear to work. Decided to keep plugging and unplugging charger and ater doing the same with head set. Then decided to do both at same time (while charger was in, plugged in head set, then unplugged one or the other alternately). This got the car kit display to flicker and even went off for a few seconds. Still didn't work. Tried blow dryer just for the heck of it a couple of different times and finally phone worked! Not sure what did it. Used Blade's instructions more than once as well as other suggestions. almost 2 hrs. but wow it works! Thanks for all the advice. Suggest others don't give up too soon. icon_smile.gif

I had just noticed this problem tonight and I was getting so angry at my phone b/c I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. I read over all the suggestions and followed each one; resetting, clearing errors, cleaning with alcohol, blow drying, taking the phone apart, all that fun stuff.

Finally, I did my last effort with the charger. I stuck the charger in and moved it up and down and I could see the phone switch between -Car Kit- and regular mode. I was elated. I did a few more bends in the regular mode direction and now it is working perfectly.

My guess is that the casing around the wires was off at an angle somewhat and was causing some issue there.

I had my phone in my pocket (didn't even get that wet) on a rainy day, thinking it was protected. I also used my car charger right before I used it, only to find out that everything on my phone worked except no sound, no audible beeps, and I couldn't hear anyone I called. So the problem could have been any one of the causes listed here.

After doing all of the usual "taking battery out solutions" and having nothing work, I called Verizon. After having me reset all of my settings to "factory default" (reminds me of microsoft tech support), and not getting any response there, the techie finally asked me if "car kit" was on my screen. Sure enough, it was. He immediately blamed it on getting wet like all you other poor slobs.

After telling me that my phone was probably dead and offering to let me purchase a new phone, I went into the drying out mode. Tried the hairdryer, putting it in front of my fireplace blower overnight, hunting through all of my empty shoe boxes for a packet of whatever that stuff is that drys out anything - nothing worked. I finally (after a Google search led me here) read about the aluminum foil trick in this forum.

Figuring that I was going to have to replace the phone anyway, as a last resort, I simply went into the kitchen, ripped off a small piece of aluminum foil, folded it to the size of the charge hole (whatever that's called), turned the phone on, and VERY hesitantly stuck the foil into the hole to connect with the pins. It was kind of like putting a key into a light socket lol - totally against my better judgement.

The second attempt WORKED! "Car kit" disappeared and the phone is working PERFECTLY. I don't think it had anything to do with water, as I had used my phone right up to the point that I plugged it into my car charger.

Anyway, I guess they can't tell you to shove aluminum foil into the charge end of the phone - that would be too simple. icon_redface.gif

I am forever indebted to you guys for the information here!

Thanks SO much!

The first thing that I saw when the -car kit- mode turned on was go on google and see how to turn it off. i found that one guy said use a piece of tin foil and rub it where you charge your phone. I did that, my phone turned off. I turned it back on to see that it worked! try this! it made me very happy icon_biggrin.gif
