I had this same issue with the "car kit" setting on my phone. how annoying! I looked online and found this forum. I had never gotten my phone wet and its april in connecticut, its not quite humid. SO, I tried everything suggested in this forum. I reset my phone, turned it on and off, took out the battery, plugged it in the car, so on and so on. then i read on about someone finding "gunk" in the car charging port. I looked and didnt see anything, but took a cuticle pusher(metal) and slid it back and forth on the top and bottom, careful of the center part, and didnt find any gunk, but my phone had shut off. At first it didnt turn back on, but then suddenly it did, and my phone was miraculously ok! hooray! so even if you dont see anything, try looking for that gunk

first try to plug it in .and unplug it from the charger.
alright.i had the vx 8100.which i loved. then it said 'CAR KIT" all the time .i shut the phone down, took out battery. called verizon.they said "it was due to watter damage.
so i used 1 claim (of 2 per yr.) and got the vx 8300.now this phones doin the same B.S. .so i called again.and the lady had me either plug in the phone to the charger car/or home.BOOMDIGGY !
it werked.car kit did come back on for whatever reason , something is gettin triggerd to set the "car kit" off.not alwayz water damage
so you might not have to burn up an insurance claim to get your phone werkin'.
so just charge your phone ,and unplug it,and see if that werks before you take your phone apart and lose 3 screws.this is just my experience with this problem.so if it dont werk .then poopy fer you!
this might help someone.if so sweet.if not .sweeter. pce dp

Hi, I've just been through "Car Kit Mode-Hell" with my LG VX8000 which I usually love.
I found you here with Google and tried all the stuff:
Hair Dryer
Needle
Pin
Screwdriver
Alcohol clean up of corrosion
Screwdriver would toggle Car Kit Mode off but it kept reverting back to on by itself.
I finally used an emery board to clean the contacts, which fits perfectly into the slot. HOORAY! My phone is back!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction:
Carkit always on; no sound, cannot hear or be heard. (LG-VX3300) After performing all the recommended drying techniques, the problem still existed. I looked at the connector pins as you did, I didn’t find any cross ones but I did find a build up of “gunk” in there. Using a tiny screw driver and alcohol, I thoroughly cleaned the connector pins. It has been working great ever since.

Thanks to everyone who posted their ways to remove the car kit message. I dropped my LG8300 in the sink this morning and have been trying to clear that annoying message all day. I was so tempted to get a new phone this morning but why spend the $$$. I used a hairdryer and dried it out with the battery removed. Didn't work after that. I found this message forum and tried the codes posted earlier but they didn't work either. I used a set of tweezers and placed one side of the tweezer into the charging port in the bottom of the phone and it reset the phone. I had to do it about three times and the "car kit" message went away and I can now use my phone! Great tips on here.

This morning I spilled some water on my LG8100 and when I finally woke up and noticed 6 missed calls and the car kit was on causing my phone not to ring or allow me to hear I searched the verizon webste for help, no luck! So I called verizon and had a computer tell me there was a 22 minute wait. While I was on hold I googled and found tis forum. Thanks had it fixed in seconds. I plugged in the charger wiggled it a bit and when te car kit went off I gave it a push, unplugged and it's back to normal. I also learned about the x's under the battery, pretty tricky! They're o longer red, kind of purplish.
Thanks Guys,
Matt

back again.
as i said before, i left my phone out in the rain last nite, and this morning i saw CAR KIT on my screen, couldnt press any buttons effectively. i tried about everything listed, but nothing helped. then i let my phone sit out in the sun the duration of the day, and by mid afternoon i could do everything on my phone effectively except hear people on my cell or be heard. i tried blade's suggestion's, but didnt work, then i tried burns, and it worked! thanks so much guys!

This site has been a real help. I have the problem outlined here with the car mode appearing. Knowing my phone was not wet, I found a message about the prongs at the base of the phone. Since I owned the phone for 3 years now, I wasnt exactly concerned about being gingerly with the knife moving the prongs around and presto, the phone works fine now. Thanks for the info, maybe i can get another year out of it, without going to the mall to get another. I know, I can upgrade for free, but I hate shopping. I am not the material guy.
