So Monday around 5:30pm I look at my phone and it has the Car Kit message on, so i took it to a Verizon Store and the Lady without really looking at my phone says Its broke because i got it wet, which i didnt.
So she tells me my only option is to buy a new phone at full price or use the insurance i have pay $50 and have them ship me a new phone, which is all contracted out.
so i did both because i cant be without my cell because it is my only phone.
I Bought the cheapest cell they had at $140 and paid the $50 for a replacement.
well the replacement arrived in 24 hours as promised, so i took it to a verizon store to get my contacts switched from my broken phone to the replacement.
well the replacement came broken. And now my original phone works fine.
so now i am in the process of getting a refund from the new one i paid for and the replacement.
To make me even more mad, i found out that they could have hooked my phone to a machine that restarts the software in the phone and it would have fixed the car kit mode.
So my advice is use a hairdryer to dry your phone and make a tech reprogram your phone, dont waste money on a new one

THIS PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED EASILY
(with the right equipment of course)
my phone was not submerged, but it did the car kit thing on a rainy day
my best guess is that it got wet somehow
NOTHING in this forum worked
not even hours in front of a blow dryer
so i brought it to school where we have an *air compressor*
i took out the battery and everything and started using it
i was a bit reckless and it might seem quite harsh
but you have to completely clean EVERY CONNECTOR
i put everything back together and it started working again
if anything goes wrong with it i will keep you updated
HOPE YOU HAVE AS MUCH SUCCESS AS I DID

Thanks to all for their ideas on how to get out of "Carkit Mode".
Unfortunately none of them worked for me. However it gave me the courage to try a few things on my own. And after inspecting the charging connector very closely, I did find a solution.
Before you try it, you need paitence, a steady hand and a needle.
1. Take the battery out.
2. Look into the charging connector port on the phone. Make sure theKeypad/flipcover is facing up.
3. Look into the port and at the connector pins on the right hand side. On my vx3200 the two pins on the right were touching. It seems some lint from my pocket got stuck in the connector and pushed them together. I used a needle to remove the lint, and then used it again to gently move the extreme right hand pin away from the pin it was touching.
4. Problem went away.
BTW, Verizon technical support was of no use, they basicly told me that the phone got wet, and I needed to buy a new one. Shows you how much they know.
thank you so much for this.
somehow, my cell phone got gum in the connector port.
it was stuck on car kit, because some of the pins were forced close together when I tried to get it out.
you just saved my life, basically. :]

I am amazed that this many people have this problem. I have an LG vx8300 that i used while in a MINOR rain about 2 weeks ago and it shut itself down. After 2 days I was able to get it back on and I lost my front screen. But the phone still worked. Now it has decided to go into the car kit mode and I can't get it off.
I have insurance on the phone and I haven't tried as of yet to see what verizon will do about replacing it.
After reading what everyone has posted, I agree, these phones should be able to handle a couple raindrops landing on it. My old phone was dropped in water and worked fine afterwards. I give up trying to fix this one, I'm sure I will be highly annoyed when I go into verizon because the only people they set out to help are people who's money they aren't robbing as of yet. *new customers* Which is real nice, considering that most of us are paying over $50 a month to have their service.
Good luck with your phones , i'll keep you posted on what happens when i head into verizon to get this thing replaced.

I had this same problem with my LG VX8100.
Here is what I did:
Quote:
Car Kit
Blade’s instructions To remove errors from phone:
#1) press soft key for menu
#2) then press 0
#3) you'll have a service code prompt, type 000000
#4) then type 2 (it should be field tests)
#5) then type 4 (clear errors)
#6) choose yes for clear errors
#7) press clear once
# type 8 (FCC test)
#9) type one (pcs)
#10) type one again (set channel) (mine shows 426 I don't know if theres a different channel for each phone.)
#11) press clear 3 times and the phone will reset.
That got the beeps going. (Keypad) But, the "Car Kit" had still not gone away
So, I sat with a hair dryer for about 5-10 minutes. Then, I made a prong out of tin-foil and put them into the battery charger port and touched them together.
The phone didn't reset, however. But, the "Car Kit" logo just went away.
People could hear me, I could hear them. And, my ringtones work. So, there you go.
Hope this helps.

I own an lg 200, and after a party, and me spilling beer allover my cell, it came up with that annoying -Car Kit- mode.i just unfolded a paper clip, and touched two of the leads on the left side of my plug, and that note dissapeared off the screen.im impressed.

Not to bad all i had to do it wipe it off and a 20 mins later i see the car kit sign appearing off and on than eventually it stayed on. I use the knife trick , didn't work, i even did the work, and the foil , and the dryer. Looked on my phone and removed all the ruber pieces than it disappeared. I'm just hope it will stay off

ok, so i musta tried everything yall have suggested! i dropped my phone in birthday cake drunkenly lol and then i stupidly washed it off--my phone shows definate water damage. soooooo the winner method is::
plug in your cell phone charger and wiggle it around while keeping an eye on the car kit message, it should start flashing.if your lucky itll switch off! if that dosen't work you can try plugging it in and out a couple times.just mess around with it. the only problem is that my phone still randomly gets the car kit message but the charger method always seems to fix it. buenos suerte
