I dropped my VX8300 in water while dish washing. Truely it barely hit the water when I had it out. IT DID NOT SUBMERGE! It hit the dishes piled up and barely got wet. I immediately took the back cover off and took the battery out. There was a little moisture on back cover. I took a dry cloth and wiped everything down. Put battery back in, turned it on and "car kit" was on. I could not hear callers and they could not hear me. Looked every where on phone and in manual. Nothing to turn it off. Tried here and read about using the aluminium prong thingy in the battery charge outlet. Didn't have aluminium, but did have metal and made a prong. Touched two ends of the metal off the prongs and guess out? IT WORKED! Thank you P.S. of course the battery was out of the phone.

Tried all of the previous tricks to no avail, on the way back in from doing car charger in turn car on one (which didn't work) I decided to stick my car key in the charging port and kind of flaten out any bent prongs.seemed to worked -my daughter's phone began to work again. Really cant knock this phone, after I had it two years I gave it to my daughter (can you say rough on a phone) and it she's going on her second year with it. Finally replaced original battery 2 months ago.
All I can say to everyone with this problem is keep trying ... something's going to work. Make Verizon your LAST stop. Service is wonderful but as someone mentioned Store clerks leave something to be desired.

Same story. Phone wet, Car Kit displayed, but all features functioned except no ring tones or volume. Called Verizon and the tech said try removing the back and letting it dry out. Found this site and tried resetting the facory defaults. No luck. read the posts about shorting out the charger recepticle with foil or a paperclip. Decided to try plugging the phone into the wall charger and "Car Kit" went away. Ringer functioned but the head set was a little low in volume even though it was set to High. So I blew compressed air into the spealer ports and BINGO. Phone works perfectly.

I spent hours reading posts (ten pages) and trying each and every item I came onto. I sat in the car for I don't know how long plugging and unplugging and hoping for that moment of relief. My desk is littered with toothpicks, straight pins, paper clips, foil, garbage tie, and maybe a bit of blood sweat and tears.
<< For the record, this phone did NOT get wet. We live in Oklahoma and I guess the humidity got it? But regardless, I developed the same problem. We also do not use Verizon, we use two other providers and all LG phones. 1st time for this problem. >>
The tin foil method worked for me. HOWEVER, it was actually a combination of posts that made it happen. So I thought I'd list my actions and maybe save someone else from thinking the foil doesn't work at all.
I ran the foil back and forth until it rest. It reset, but ck mode was still present. I did this multiple times over and over.
I used the list of tools above to clean out between the pins and got no response.
I used the foil again, resetting. No luck.
I crammed foil into the port, no luck. I took another piece and folded it and put it in, no luck.
THEN I read a post about the two pins to the far right when the screen is facing you being the two that truly mattered. I started over with the foil.
I folded the piece into a narrow strip, only wanting to hit the pieces at the right side and not get a reset. I pushed the foil inside and then began to wiggle it back and forth. I got a quick flash of Vibe & High and knew I had hit the g-spot! It took some practice but I worked until I saw the message again, and then I held everything still. I pushed at the larger end of the foil until it was holding it in place and I could let go. I crammed it in tight and smoothed it off so it won't get accidentally knocked out. It's working.
I will probably try to get a more permanent fix tomorrow. but for now. I'm going to sleep.
THANK YOU ALL so much for all of your posts and even more so for the detail in them that led me to a solution to get me through tomorrow.

OK here's an easy one. hold down the * key. This gets you out of it and it will be on vibrate. hole the * once more and you will have your cell phone back. Feel free to call up you local Verizon tech guy and give them a hard time about not knowing this easy fix. It worked for me. I did not have my phone exposed to water, it was just in "car kit" mode one morning.

Verizon store told me phone is DEAD,no way to repair because of moisture in the phone, showed me the color change on battery and told me I must buy a new phone. After 5 days of thinking about it, I happened to open a bottle of baby aspirin and noticed an antidesicant container in the bottle. I took the little container and put it and the cell phone into a plastic bag, and sealed the bag. Thirty minutes later I checked and phone, and Voila! no car kit message and the phone is working perfectly. Now if someone could remind me how to increase the volume on the ringer.

Car Kit came up on my phone (owned for 9 months). The phone works but no sound will come out. I have not got it wet though my battery and phone indicate moisture on those sensors by turning it checkered. I read Corey's post and rubbed a paperclip in the charging port, turned it on & I had sound. It works just fine. Amazing, I couldn't believe it. Thanks a million!

My son's phone was displaying the "car kit" message as well. I sat here for an hour reading posts that dated back 2 years trying to figure out a way to fix it. The only thing I can think that happened is that my 1 year old constantly has the phone in his mouth, so maybe that's why there's water damage. I tried all the remedies for resetting the phone, I tried blow drying it and nothing worked. Finally I read a post that said to check if there was "gunk" in the charge port. I looked and sure enough there was some sort of gunk in my son's phone. I took a pair of scissors and jiggled the blade around in there and all of a sudden it started working! Definitely better than paying for a new phone!

My phone started doing the car kit thing this morning. But it only does it while my phone is charging. I can't really "short" it out while the charger is in place. The reason this is a big problem is because my battery is old and does not hold a charge very well. For the most part I have to have the phone charging to have a conversation.
Any ideas? And yes I know I should buy a new battery, but I honestly can't afford one right now.

I have an LG Pm225 model.
I feel compelled to sign up and write my own thoughts on this as this online forum community helped me out as well and saved me some $$$ and time and a big headache.
Not to mention all the "tricks," an valuable information.
Here's what worked for me.
Water moisture was the main culprit to my phone being in the "car kit" mode.
I was taking a warm bath and my phone was on the counter nearby, since my wife calls me or gets upset if I don't pick up the phone because it could be some emergency, I took the phone and placed it on the edge of the bathtub, away from me a bit. (doh.) well, the inevitable happened, there was some water seeping near my phone or around it, so I quickly pulled the phone from the water and dried it off in a towel and let it be. Since the light was still flashing on the phone, I thought It wasn't enough to have any type of problems or what not, wrong.
Fast forward, I get the same results as everyone else.Im at my computer and I see my phone flashing, no noise, no vibration.I pick it up and it's my wife, can't hear her, she can't hear me.
I see in red letters "car kit" mode.I go through all the settings and to my astonishment, no option for that.go figure.
I did the "take off battery" and wait 30 seconds to a minute trick.didn't work.
I did the blow dryer trick on the contacts, didn't work either.still same ol' same 'ol.
I did the code reset mode (blade's trick) and for the LG pm225, you have to go to the menu options, go to settings.scroll to security;
it'll prompt you for a lock code.just enter 0000 or default to the last 4 digits of your phone number should do the trick.
Once that happens, it will reset.
Didn't work for me, but I could see it working for others. Nice to know the trick, oh.btw: don't worry, it will say you will lose some information etc.
Your phone numbers and contacts and everything else will still be there.
Next, I did the trick of plugging in the home charger.no workie, than I did the car charging trick.neither would work.oh well.
Okay, now shorting out the phone trick.for this type of phone, it doesn't work so well with tin-foil or paper clips as there may not be a reaction,
what worked was this.
I took some tin foil, plugged up the entire bottom area of the phone and also where the charger port would go, than I stabbed the phone charger head into the back of the phone as if Im plugging it in to charge, but with the tin foil stuck in there.boom.
the red "car kit' mode instantly went away, I made an outgoing call to my wife, and than slowly took out the charger, still working, than slowly the tin foil out.still working.
Finally, I hung up the phone, placed another call, did not see those words again. Good trick to know, thanks to the numerous members on this forum trying to help out!
