I had same car kit mode problem. I tried most of the options listed in these 19 pages without sucess. The last hope was the foil over the pins and then plugging the charger over the top of it. This worked and the car kit message went away and the phone started working properly again.

So ive never posted here, but just really wanted to let people know how helpful this was, and what ultimately worked for me. My phone fell into a snow bank where it lay for about an hour in the midst of a noreaster.i somehow found it turned it on and stupidly didnt let it dry. Sure enough car kit is on and the mouth piece isnt functioning. I found my wy onto this forum and there were sooo many helpful posts that at the least helped inform me of what i was facing.
I went down the first three pages on this problem and tried the the pin anf foil things, code changing, anything and everything. Finally i came across one that was talking about pluging it into your car charger.i dont have a car charger, so that wasnt of use, but ultimately it gave me the idea to try it with my charger. NO DICE. But while i started to get pissed of I accidently pushed the voice command button while plugging in the charger and it shut off the "car kit" and i can use it fine now!
Hope that works for someone out there.im struggling in the middle of exams and when this happened i almost lost it, but the one hour i spent messing with it was worth it! Thanks!

CAR KIT WEIRDNESS & GUNK
These forums are awesome, where would the world be w/o them! Anyway I read through some posts regarding "GUNK" in the charge port. I have a VX8300, and this phone has survived a perilless dip in Lake Erie. The thing was submerged for like 10 minutes while it was on and it still was working after my buddy stole a fishing net from another boat and I was able to retrieve it in like 3'-4' water. Amazing. Anyway back to the "GUNK", today I tossed it in a bag with leftover fettucini alfredo which happened to leak out of the container and smear itself all over my phone. That evening I noticed "Car Kit" on the banner. I then jumped onto the internet and read about the "GUNK" and proceeded to inspect my phone. I noticed clumps of alfredo sauce (GUNK ) in the charge port and scraped it out with a paper clip and then blew into the hole to clear the "GUNK" out. I turned it on and the phone is alive and well. LG rules and so does the "GUNK" forum!

tl;dr past pg 10
Yeah. . .I tried allll that stuff (up to the tenth page, anyway. . .) and none of it worked for more than a few seconds. I had noticed early on that wiggling the charger around in the phone helped a little, but the more I did it, the less likely I was to find a successful position. Finally, I tried once more with the paper clip idea, stroking it up from the bottom of that little wall with the metal bars on it, and found one run to be successful. . .until I put it on the charger.
Crap.
Any more helpful suggestions? owo

This nasty car kit message cost me four hours on my day off, but thanks to all of your posts, it is now working. The tin foil rubbed into the regular charger port finally worked. Thank you so much for ending my aggravation. I did NOT have any moisture in touch with the phone, I had just removed it from the charging port. Perhaps I was too rough when I pulled the jack out. I am out of CAR KIT hell.

yeah i tried to restart my phone multiple times, i have the VX4650, and then i finally went and got some aluminum foil and folded it up and stuck it in the charger port and then the car kit banner went away for a couple of seconds but kept coming back so then i went into my room where my charger was and i stuck the aluminum foil in the port and then quickly plugged my charger in after i removed the foil, and the bingo bango boom! no more car kit!

I don't know what started my Car Kit Mode.no water that I know of. I was on my way to the hospital with a kidney stone and realized it wasn't working. I had to text people to call and check on my kids, and then they would text me. back It was a mess! I have tried everything on this forum. I have an LG PM225. It was free when I signed up with Sprint and that was two years ago. It's a shame you only get a deal on a phone for being a new customer. Ok sorry, back to trying everything. Only one thing has worked. I now have a tiny piece of foil stuffed on the right side above the data port pins. How ghetto is that? But it works. I will try more tomorrow and hope something gives! Keep the suggestions coming! It has helped!

Thanks to all that submitted the fixes that they have tried over and over again. Thanks to you I only wasted 20min of my time. My daughters phone was showing CarKit and was not responding.
To the point I checked the bottom where you plug in the charger and withthe phone off seperate any connectors. Make sure they are not touching. Then turn on the phone. and bam fixed. Not sure it will work for everyone but it did for me.
Thanks for the communication.

Thank you soooo much! I tried everything then I came to your post. You rock!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have had this happen to both my vx7000 and vx6000 and each time I
was able to fix it. One was ruin by 2 year old daugther getting
slobber all over the end and causing it to corode and my vx7000 got
some liquid on it.
Here is what I did. I took both phones apart to the board. Actually,
took the board out. I then sprayed some universal cleaner/degreaser
(Blue Shower 2) used for cleaning electronics on that area. I used a
brissled brush to get clean up in the connections areas to remove any
corrosion. Then I took a hair dryer and thoroughly dried it out. Put
the phones back to together, dried it somemore, turned them on and
both worked just fine. It you try this, make sure you get all your
wires back in the right places on the board. It makes it easier to
clean when all you have is the board in your hand.
Actually, I have did this procedure 4 times with success all 4 times.
Verizon said I needed new phones that it couldn't be fix plus my
battery was shot. I guess that was about 7 months ago and haven't had
to replace anything.[/quote]
