So, I have a rather interesting story. I was part of an Amazing Race team at my university. Anyway, throughout the day, I ended up getting egg yolk all over my phone. I didn't realize it until later when, of course, the infamous car kit sign appeared. I have dropped my phone completely in water twice in the past two years and this sign never appeared, but evidently it wasn't to fond of the egg. So I realized that the charger port had some yolk jammed in the end (it smelled really bad too). So I cleaned it out as best I could. I used the toothbrush and rubbing alcohol thing, but the sign continued. Then I tried the tin foil thing and that made the sign go away, but now my phone still doesn't work. I can now make calls and I can hear the person, but it is really quiet and I can't turn it up. Also, they cannot hear me at all. Any advice for my egg phone?

Hi everyone I have a question about my LG. The car kit symbol has appeared recently and from looking at these reviews I was looking at Blade's method works well. I am afraid that using Blade's method will erase info on my phone. Does this process erase pics, contacts, text messages, ect.? I have some things on my phone that I don't want deleted. Thanks!

I just wanted to mention that I had this problem as well on my wife's phone. There turned out to be corrosion on the charging terminal as many posts suggest to check. I cleaned that off and everything is fine now. The main reason however that I wanted to post in this forum was to Makaelin who posted a long while back. He stated that he was a phone technician and that the moisture indicator on the battery isn't easy to trigger. FALSE I SAY!
I have worked with electoronics and technology for a very long time now. I was responsible for purschasing and setting up over 80 Blackberries for one of my former companies and have owned several cell phones myself. I have in fact seen the batteries still packed in their special little wrappers already indicating that moisture had been present INSIDE the package. Believe me that moisture indicator is a SCAM, plain and simple. It is an easy way for a phone company to offer a warranty that they don't have to honor simply because that inidicator will go off if you breath on it.
One last little gripe and then I am done. What is the deal with these cell phones being so sensitive to water. I mean the whole idea of a cell phone is mobility, they are to be taken out into the world and used. PHONE COMPANIES WAKEUP! The world is a dirty, wet, moisture filled garden of abuse. Can't you make a phone that can take a little humidity for cripes sake. I mean seriously is it too much to ask that these phones be a little tougher? OK I will get off my soap box. I want to thank everyone that posted solutions on this forum as they were a BIG help. I would have likely lost my mind trying to figure out how to fix my wifes phone

My phone had this error. It turned out to be bent contacts inside the charging port in the end of the phone itself. The contacts were touching the metal inside of the phone and that was causing the phone to think it was docked in a car kit. I used a sewing needle to straighten the bent contacts and indicator went away. Make sure you turn the phone off before you try to unbend the contacts. I can no longer use my car charger but the charging docking station still works. Good luck.

My phone went into car kid mode sunday after being spilled on. I let it dry out until monday, but it still wouldn't work. After reading all of these posts, I tried the paperclip method with no success. Then, I got really frustrated and started wiggling my charger from side to side. In the process of doing so, my battery fell out. Well, while my battery was out, I still wiggled the charger from side to side and the nokia sign appeared. So, I put the battery back in and no more car kit mode!
Recap - take out the battery and wiggle the phone charger from side-to-side, in-and-out until the nokia sign appears. Then, put the battery back in and your phone should be out of car kit mode!

After hours of reading all of the wonderful tips to get rid of car kit mode. I finally did it. At first I tried the alchohol and brush, that didn't not work. I tried the blow dryer, that did not work. I tried cleaning the charging dock and wiggling the charging dock with the charger, that did not work. After trying everything and feeling defeated, I glanced at one final post. This post was a God send, it suggested using aluminum foil. I took a small piece of foil, rammed in the charging dock, plugged my cell back into the charger and wiggled for about 25 minutes and suddenly, my phone started to beep and make noises. I continued with this for about another 30 minutes and finally the car kit mode went off. Hurray! The sound is muffled, but what the hay? I can still hear and my phone rings now. Thanks a million for all those people who posted really great ideas. Foil worked for me and I'm certain that someone else will benefit from foil or another method.

along with everyone else I've tried multiple methods for this. I tried both sets of "0" codes, plugging in car charger, cleaned out charge port with a bobby pin, aluminum foil overload. finally i did the foil and charger method and that worked, but when i take the charger out, i'm back where i started any other ideas?

Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions. Count me in on the tin foil success group. Went down to the company cafeteria and pilfered a piece and was up and going in no time. Tried a lot of the other suggestions.
In addition, I wrote a scathing email to our company sales rep. It was my personal phone but we are large corporate account with thousands of phones, blackberries, etc. Full services including internet tethers. Told him that the techs could suggest to the customers to clean the charger port at the very least. In addition quit relying on the water torture excuse to get out of doing any work. Ok, that might not result in a phone sale but will create a more loyal and happy customer.
There is life after car kit mode.

My phone also has said CAR KIT before and i did not get it wet.
So all i did was clean out the bottom of my phone where you charge it and car kit went away.
There could have been left over residue that was starting to create moisture, but now my phone is fine.
