Last weekend, my LG VX6000 was under the impression that it could swim in the atlantic ocean. It was wrong.
I've dried it out, moved past the "car mode" stage, and am left with two nagging symptoms.:
1) The red lamp lights up along with the phone's backlight and the volume button requires more pressure to activate. That never happened before.
2) More importantly, the phone does not hold a charge like it used to. About 45 min of talk time and all day standby. Used to be able to go a couple days without charing. There is some serious corrosion at the charge port (and I imagine in places I can't see).
My question is, can someone explain a little more what NAPA electronics cleaner is (the autoparts store?)? What's the best tool for the job? I'm reasonably handy, I'm just trying to get some more info before I tear the phone apart.
I've used the search and everything pointed back to this thread - which is an awesome thread, ps.

The LG VX6000 goes into constant Car Kit mode mostly for one of two reasons. First and foremost, the phone got wet enough that enough water entered the charging port, causing corrosion to form on the outside. Many times, however, the corrosion is on the base of the circuit board on the inside of the phone where the charging port is soldered to the rest of the phone. Cleaning the port, as well as opening the phone and cleaning all signs of corrosion (some of it is very hard to see) with NAPA electronics cleaner and allowing it to dry is the best way to try and reverse the problem.

My phone got wet and I have been stuck in -car kit- hell for a while. I tried blades codes and they temporarily worked. I dried it out and tried the car charger and all seem to give only temporary relief. The next time it clicks in though I am thinking about shorting it with a paper clip. Does this shock you? How does it feel...I am a little nervous.
I think it is terrible that verizon is not helpful when they seem to have a quick solution.

This seems to be a common problem I wonder if Verizon should issue some sort of recall and provide a fix that would avert this issue although they seem to be the winners in this the way judging by the language in their contract on their warranty. I think there is some sort of consumer law that might work in the - car kit - sufferer's favor. People depend on verizon's service ...I read the doctor's post for example...and to be left with the issues that arise from baby saliva for example..is a disaster.

I have tried blade's solution and my VX3200 is still coming up in car kit mode. My phone was in my pocket when I went for a swin in a lake so I know for sure that my phone got wet.
I took the whole phone apart and dried out everything very thoroughly. There is now an orange odd shape on the center corner of the LCD screen and the phone is stuck in car kit mode.
Other than this the phone is flawless
After clearing the errors if I reboot and go to look at the errors again there is one that is always there.
It is error File srchzz
another error that keeps appearing is File dsmip_dme
and
File mccsa
Any ideas.

I tried almost everthing here. My wife took her phone back to verizon was told there was nothing that they could do. I looked at missy's post and decide I had nothing to lose so rubbed a paper clip on the terminals where you plug in the charger. It worked!!!!!! It worked best towards the right side of the phone. Good luck.
