The other reason an LG trips into Car Kit mode is physical damage to the charging port, where some of the tiny pin connectors have been bent or broken and are usually touching (even very slightly). Make sure that isn't the case by confirming that the black lining strip is still attached beneath the row of connectors, and that none are bent out of place (do this while looking for signs of corrosion).
However I've only seen a handful that weren't in that mode due to liquid or physical damage.
Hope this helps someone out.
It helped me out for sure! I looked, and my pin connectors were touching on one side, probably due to me yanking the cord out this morning on my way out of the house. I very technically poked at them with a bent paperclip and a thumbtack, and now they don't touch and my phone works perfectly.

My phone went into car kit mode without it being wet. It was my third phone in a month because Verizon kept sending me faulty replacement phones. I was told the phone will only go into Car kit mode when it is wet, but I knew I never got it wet. After a week of fighting on the phone with the company, I learned that the only way Verizon can tell if you have water damange is by seeing if the battery changed color. On the battery, there is this little hole. If the phone was wet, the hole will be red. If the phone was not wet, it will be white with pink x's. This is a good way to prove your chase. I wish you all luck with dealing with your phone, I know what a pain it can be.

I dont see the red hole on the battery but you can always buy a new battery so i think that post was a mistake. Now I am a car kit survivor I did all those tricks and my phone recovered. Everything is fine except for the speaker phone option is dead. I dont hear anything when I cut into speaker phone option. can this be fixed or shall i just accept deafness?

Thanks guys for the info. I never got my phone wet or in a humid climate but got the same crap from verizon. they flat out called me a lier. voided my warranty and refused to help with the phone at all. after a few choice four letter words I left. though non of the fixes that you all tried did not fix my phone they did help me find a way to fix it. after shoving it full of ten foil and crap I had narrowed it down to two terminals that needed the connection and went from there. after removing the six screws from the phone and carfully prying open the case. with the phone faceing you the first two terminals going to the jack needed shorted together. do this by gently bending them each half way tell they touch. this tricks the phone into thinking the car kit has been removed. reasyml and wala! good as new. Hope this help the rest of you. but do this a a last resort as I did. You will be pleased as this is a perment fix. You my choose to solder this connection to make it better. Good luck!

My cell phone was rained on all night and at first was useless - this is a LG 6000 from Verizon. I dried it under a fan for a few hours and then it came to life and said -car kit-; Verizon said the phone was wet and not fixable and I could buy a new one or wait until april when I get a new one. They said -car kit- comes on when exposed to moisture. I have a B.S. in Chemistry so I took off the battery, unscrewed the four screws and then opened it slightly. Then I placed in a sealed container (tupperware) and placed a fair amount of a chemical called Calcium Chloride (CaCL2) in the tupperware and place the cell phone and battery
in there, sitting on paper so as not to touch the CaCL2. Then I sealed it all up overnight. Next day -car kit- is gone and it works fine!
CaCL2 is a chemical that LOVES moisture and will draw it out of anything, including thin air and my cell phone - so it truly dried out the inside of my cell phone (without touching it) and the phone is acting as though it was never wet. Luckily rain is fairly pure water and left no residue inside my cell phone. Hope that helps /Joe (joec_49@hotmail.com).
If you get CaCL2 (hardware store?), keep it SEALED up from the air, again, it loves water and you will have a real mess if not SEALED UP all the time.

It tried the following, and it seemed to work, hope it helps. Keep the phone on for about half an hour or so. If the moisture is not too much, then the phone usually gets hot enough to get rid of the moisture on its own.
