Enter "Menu"
Select "Settings"
Select "Security"
Enter "Lock Code" - Will default to last 4 digits of phone number or "0000" unless changed.
Select "Reset Defaults"
Press "Ok"

Hopefully this helps.

i have finally found the perfect way to fix the infamous -Car Kit- Mode. All you have to do is take a small piece of tinfoil and stick it in the end(recharge port) then u rub the tinfoit in there and it should disable the Car Kit Mode. In my case you did not have to keep the Tin Foil in there. I hope it works for you all. Post back to tell me the results.

My lg4650 was stuck in Car kit mode ever since getting wet. I tried all the things I read here, and nothing worked. Finally I went to the Radio Shack store to see if the man there could find any fixes. He looked at it, said the speaker wires looked fine, and he couldn't do anything for it. In desperation, I dropped it several times, then banged it on the dashboard several times. Still no change. I finally disassembled it again, used rubbing alcohol on all contacts, dried it off, then unplugged the speaker wire ( red and black) and cleaned that area with rubbing alcohol, and dried it all with my hair dryer. When I put it back together, it worked fine. No more "car kit" mode. it dials, rings, and everything. Hope this helps someone else.

The method published by Blade works, but you may have to try it a couple times. My channel was 630. I reccomend that you retype your channel into phone. Once the phone resets it might go back to car kit mode, but it will eventually go back to normal; then you should immediately place a call to
finish resetting the software.

Thanks to everyone who submitted their pointers for solving the car kit mode problem. The condensation of a cold winter night out in the car kicked my VX3200 into car kit mode.

Initially spent some time trying the simplier offered solutions; (those not involving screwdrivers, solvents or hairdryers) unfortunately, no luck resetting the phone. Took the battery out, let it sit awhile and charged it fully indoors....still no luck. Sent myself a text...still nothing.

Plugged the phone into the car charging adaptor and Eureka!, the Car Kit message was gone. The tirelessness with which ideas were submitted to this thread gave me the will to keep trying - besides, who needs the cost or aggravation of buying themselves a phone during the week before Christmas!?!!

Thanks again - you folks have made my day - something actually worked!
All the best for 2006!

I had the same problem of constant Car Kit mode. After reading a few posts on this forum I took an old toothbrush and brushed out the charging port (for the car charger) and it went back to regular mode. Yipppeee, no more Car Kit mode!!! I'm pretty sure that there was corrosion in there from my infant son slobbering on my phone. I hope this helps others from having to get a new phone.

After researching this topic for hours, I found something that worked for my LG VX4500 that got left out in the rain. I tried all of the solutions posted above, and NOTHING WORKED. Read this article, and the responses. Basically, if you stick foil into the bottom of the phone where it docks it causes a surge and the phone will reset. It took me 3-4 attempts, but it finally worked.! No more car kit mode. My phone was left out during a downpour and this still worked. icon_biggrin.gif

To get rid of the "Car Kit" Mode on LG/Verizon cell phone:

1st. Remove the battery and dry it as thouroughly as you can
    with a hair dryer.

2nd. Insert the regular home battery charger (the one that came included with the phone) into the outlet at the bottom of the phone and wiggle it (in and out, side to side) until the phone resets itself (because of a power surge).

3rd. Keep doing this until the phone returns back to normal

Also, try the aluminum foil tip. This will give the same effect.

The phone will go back to its normal settings with ringtone/vibrate.
