my phone has -Car Kit- on the screen all the time... in another thread someone said this could be caused by contact with water... yes my phone became submegred for a few seconds I was wondering if anyone knew of a way of salvaging my phone or do I just have to eat another $250 for a new one?
Thanks for any and all help!

First thing is shut off whatever electronic device it is including remove the battery. Then you must make sure to take the time to dry it out. You can help it by using a hair dryer but make sure you let ALL the moisture dry out. Then clean the contacts on the battery AND the contacts on the phone. If you're lucky then the device, your phone in this case, will boot up just like normal OR not. To aid in the drying process you can remove the cover exposing the internals and use the blow dryer and it will either work fine or it's fatal. Good luck! If you have the insurance it's COVERED, if you don't have the insurance then if you're honest about what happened they'll work with you. I have the name and number of a good customer service person at Verizon if you'd like it send me a private message.

If the battery off for 30 seconds doesn't do the trick, there are two things to try...
The car mode text appears when the phone think's that a hands free device is plugged in. You can try manually overriding this by holding the * key for 3 seconds. If this doesn't change to manner mode or normal mode, then try plugging your headset in and unplugging it.
If anything the phone may need to be completely reset which any VZW store can do.

This is my solution:
Attach earpiece, call somebody, detach earpiece during call.
I went skiing with my phone in my ski jacket. It was raining, and water got inside. The phone turned itself off, and I got this "-Car Kit-" message when I turned it on. It would not let me use the earpiece and mic on the phone, I could only use a headset attached to make calls. I went to the Verizon store, and they told me this is LG's way of indicating water damage for warranty purposes, and resetting it would not do any good. I tried to "dry it out" and removed the battery for a long time, but no luck. I do not have insurance and I thought I was stuck with buying a new phone to fix it. Then, I made a phone call with the headset, knocked the phone off the table accidently, and the headset unplugged. But the phone call was still active and I started talking directly in the phone! The -Car Kit- message has dissappeared ever since, and my phone is working as it did before it got wet.
So it was either one of these that did the trick:
1. The headset was unplugged during the call.
2. #1 and the phone was 'closed' (not flipped open) during the call.
3. The smack against the floor. Although I did try to hit it prior to the call to no avail.
4. A combination of any of the above.
My guess is #1. But you may as well try #2 at the same time.
Good luck...

I had recently dropped my phone on a rainy day and didnt think i had any water damage. i read on the forum that its the only reason that car kit mode would be able to come up. well i didnt want to pay money for a new phone so i did some experimenting, here is the best way to get rid of car kit mode without having to reset your phone...
#1) press soft key for menu
#2) then press 0
#3) you'll have a service code prompt, type 000000
#4) then type 2 (it should be field tests)
#5) then type 4 (clear errors)
#6) choose yes for clear errors
#7) press clear once
# type 8 (FCC test)
#9) type one (pcs)
#10) type one again (set channel) (mine shows 426 I don't know if theres a different channel for each phone.)
#11) press clear 3 times and the phone will reset.
when you get back into your phone the car kit mode should be gone and you will be able to hear your ringer
I hope this helps yall out. it worked for me

I've had the same problems. I don't know where moisture came from - maybe a droplet of water or a sweaty palm - and the thing kicked into "car kit" non-operational mode. Verizon pointed out that battery indicator is pink; opened the cap on the bottom - said the terminals are corroded; and refused to service, saying my warranty is void. I don't have insurance, so they say I have to buy a new phone at full price - $200+.
Seems like lots of people have had similar problems. This is a racket. I've had Motorola phones that have been rained on and kept working. The LG, though a nice phone, seems prone to this problem and with this "moisture indicator" pink spot seems like an excuse to disclaim warranty coverage.
Cell phones are carried in pockets and pocket books and handled out of doors. While it is understandable that they are not waterproof and submergible, they shouldn't wimp out at the slightest hint of moisture and LG and Verizon shouldn't be able to claim an excuse not to stand behind the warranty.
Any others with similar experiences and thoughts??
(P.S. I'll try the above posted remedies and see what if anything they accomplish.)

I appreciate Blade's useful instructions. It eliminated the "car-kit" sign which lasted for a week after moisture damage, then went off without my doing anything, and then came on and off on occasion (which could be fixed usually by turning the phone off and on).
The last time car-kit appeared, I couldn't get it off until I followed Blade's excellently written instructions. I have saved the instructions, and will use them again if I have trouble.
Thanks for this really useful and money-saving info.
