Phone Model: 6820
Service Provider: ATT |

I am having difficulty using my 6820 as a modem. I am connecting through bluetooth (Windows XP). The computer pairs okay with the phone and begins the dialing process. It attempts to dial for a few seconds but never connects. The phone number is correct because I have dialed it directly from the phone and it connects with the ISP. All my dialing settings are correct in the dialup networking setup. Is there a code that must be dialed preceding the phone number for the Nokia 6820 or bluetooth? I use to have a Seimens phone that required something like #99 before the number to connect through an Infrared port.
Thanks for any insight.

I have the same problem with the 6610i. I wam trying to use the modem on the 6610i from Windows XP over irda. Its dials the number ok but then gets the number not available tone. When I dial the number directly on the handset it works fine.
Haven't been able to find any settings to fix it.

Try this
go to control panel -> phone and modem settings -> highlight the particular modem (which would be either 6820 or 6610i or whateva phone you are using) -> select properties -> Advanced tab -> and enter in the extra initalisation string +cgdcont =1,"ip","APN" where APN is the APN you require to connect to the world wide web, most service providers use APN interent.
BUT BEFORE YOU DO ABOVE back sure in your handset you go to Settings -> Connectivity or GPRS MODEM SETTINGS -> Edit Active access point->rename alias for access point to internet->scroll down to GPRS access point and enter the APN you require to connect to the world wide WEB.
Tell me how you go.

I'm a little bit confused - Sorry!!
Will this set my phone up for GPRS access or for dail-up internet access?
I don't want to use GPRS - its too expensive here in Ireland.

I want to use the modem in my phone to dial up to my work network. My pc connects fine with the phone over irda but when it dials the phone gives an 'number unknown' tone. When i dial the number myself in the handset it works fine.

I have solved my problem. I did not have data calls switched on with my mobile phone provider. Called my mobile phone provider - they switched on data calls and everything was fine.
Thanks for the help
