Im going to get the motorola v505, but here's the catch, I want to buy it off of ebay which has it for good prices, and I wanted to know if the phone is unlocked, will some of the features be missing? Because if I get it unlocked and lock it to AT&T would the features come back? It's just that the unlocked phones are about $165+ and the locked phones are $175+. I don't mind paying the extra amount of money for a locked phone but it wouldn't hurt sparing a few dollars

Unlocked phones dont need to be locked. Unlocked just will allow you to put whatever SIM card you want in it from any carrier and it will work. As for features? If you mean internet and stuff I think thats the one thing you'd have to fix.

Yea that's what I meant. So it doesn't matter if it's unlocked or not. And if there's an internet problem just take it to my service provider right? Yea.

THere are few method of unlock a phone. The safest way is IEMI calculator, this method use a caculating system to find the unlock code for you fone, service cost from $20 to $40, second is smart clip box this box will a few bits in program and instancly unlock in 10second. These two won't harm or change any function or performance of you fone.
Third method is the one we all love so much and taht is Flash and Flex( change firm and software of the fone. THis method has cons and pro, it may improved performance of the fone like better reception, but may loose few hours of battery life, may gains anew feature but lose the standard one. So if the fone you going to buy is unlock buy the third method then it is something that concern you, otherwise you have nothing to worry about. Clear as mud isn't it? hope this info be some help for you

Actually for the V505 I have tried flash, flex, reflash, and everything else I could think of. The end result? The phone is still locked. But, I did get more battery life than the standard ATT flex that was on there. And to be frank, I didn't loose anything important. As a matter of fact I was able to get rid of that stupid mmode button. And, I still have AIM Yahoo and ICQ...

Try it again and you see what i'm talking about. Get two exact sam fone do exact same thing but result will varries. For question that is still lock check you flash and flex files cause some of them will lock you back on after you flash/flex it and some cases the flex is from voda or some other carrier in UK!!

Tried it on 3 phones that are V505 from ATT. All of them have the same results. Tried even reflashing and reflexing. Unfortunately they are all still locked. I even tried putting in a different carrier's SIM card after I flashed and flexed. No go. And to answer the thing about the flexes being branded, I used unbraded ones. So, overall I am stuck with all of the phones locked, but with more features... I would love to get them unlocked...

Well I wasn't aware that the manufacturer just handed out the subsidy codes, but maybe they will. It's worth a shot to hit up moto for it. Otherwise you gonna pay for the code.
