Hi, Im looking at buying a Motorola Ve Razor on ebay, does anyone know what happens if someone reports the phone stolen after a month of me buying it and it gets blocked. Can I use my ebay as a reciept or claim through pay pal ?? or do I call the networks ?
Just dont want to spend so much money and get ripped off !!

If you are buying through ebay, there is no telling how trustworthy this company or person who is selling the phone are. You might want to get some form of fraud protection as well. Either through ebay or paypal for example.

How do I do that and will they offer protection even a month down the line ??? Can I report it to the police if it happens and get the phone unblocked ??

You will need to look at ebay and or paypal's protection policy.

I would not buy it unless you knew some one can unlock it and try to unlock it as soon as you get it. As far as i know it is too new and no unlock service or mart clip are availble for this modle yet.

It's a big risk buying anything off e-bay for fear of it being stolen or being frauded into buying the phone itself now-days. But like duce and old_fool said check your security policy and make sure you can unlock it if it does get locked up. I personnaly have not seen to much of a price drop on e-bay phones and retail from the carrier so I'd actually perfer to spend like 20 - 30 dollars extra and by the phone factory from your carrier.

this phone is a exclusive phone for cingular. It is unlocked and can be used with any other gsm carrier. the problem is the applications such as internet, IM, text messaging features will not work. So unless you have cingular service I don't recommend buying this phone. If you have cingular and have a sim card already you just need to put the sim in the phone. If you don't have a sim just go to a company store and have them switch your service to gsm and buy the sim chip($25.00). Ciongular doesn't check to see if the phone is stolen.

i know for a fact as long as the phone is unlocked that you can use IM text msg ect. All you have to do it talk to your cariers tech support. Trust me i have a v80 with Tmobile in the US and i have had no problems. As for a banned phone EVERY company by US LAW has to check if the phone is lost/stolen/ect they all hook up to a national database, now if the phone was stolen in another country then it should be ok, the best way i have found to buy phones on ebay was to ask for the phones S/N and then call the company who made the phone they are required to keep an on going list of banned ID's - they will tell ya yes or no on the phone.

Yes it its law to check the phone. Also you don't have any worries about getting away with stolen phones, if the person calls it in as stolen with the IMEI # the company can wirelessly lock the phone so its useless. Unless you unlock it somehow with the subsidy code.

Before you buy a Razor on ebay, ask for the IME number -- it is the electronic serial number for the phone and is on a label under the battery. Then call cingular at 800 331 0500 and ask them to check to see if that phone has been reported stolen.
