Maybe its time that you try a different software. P2kman does the same as mpt and much more. If you ever manage to get a copy of this software look in the motorola tutorial section.

i cant get p2kman to work either....my phone just doesnt connect to the computer...i just need the phone to connect to the computer

You also need pst installed as well to have p2kman working. The driver you need is p2k driver.

When you installed MPT did you have the phone connected? If so un-install and re-install with phone unconnected when it asks for the phone plug it in and direct the driver install to the (C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST) folder and it SHOULD find your phones drivers. It will ask you this question a few times to get all the drivers. Let us know what we can do to help if this is in accurate

the phone was not connected...the skin on mpt says initializing and it never connects

Restart mpt again, while it is trying to initialize, unplug/plug phone to pc again.
