I used Audacity and made a 20sec mp3 clip at 32 kbps and whenever I download it it says unknown file type... something I should change in the way I encoded it or what?

try several different mp3 files. It shouldn't matter, but try to select mono instead of stereo. Bump up the kbps to 96.

Ya, 32kbs may be cuttin it a little close, I always do 96 kbs, make a small file and good quality. MAKE SURE it is safed as a windows MP3 format.

mp3's are the ringer the phone is able to use, not wav or wma only mp3's so doublecheck the file ext. Then try to cut them at 30 secs or less then set them around 96kbps Thats usually the mid line for size and playback quality. Then use MPT to upload.

Motorola in all their infinite wisdom does not make a Mac version of MPT. It seems that the files uploaded to the phone may not be true MP3s as MPT might be doing something behind the scenes to get them onto the phone. As Macs don't have the MPT software we are unable to correctly upload the files to the phone despite being able to upload using Bluetooth.
VPC has a few issues with it connecting to USB devices such as the phone despite being told that it can use it.
Is there a convertor, even if it does run under Windows, that allows one to convert MP3s into a file that the phones understand offline (i.e. not requiring phone to be connected)?
