I don't understand why this error is so common with you guys, if you download MPT and install the driver from the MPT directory you really shouldn't be missing anything.
Am I missing something? Although feel free to email me if you still need it.
my email address is -edited not allowed- please send me a link on that file or the file pleasee i cant configure my cellphone because of that helpppppppp rmrbr comp_mdm.inf

Ok I sent you that file so see if that helps. When the instal asks you for it just direct it to where you placed the inf.
I need the file COMP_MDM.INF that you refered to having sent to this individual. I cannot find this file anywhere and it's not in my INF directory on mobile phone tools. I do not need this file for MPT, but rahter for a SIM Reader program that is asking for it.
Thanks, Maica

First post (of many, I'm sure). I found my way here after googling this file, but my situation is a bit different than the others I read here.
I have a usb sim card reader/writer that I just got. No install disk, but when I plugged it in it needed ser2pl.sys (found online) and now this file COMP_MDM.INF. Can anyone assist?
Incidentally, I also purchased a new copy of Motorola MPT v3 on the same order as the reader, but I didn't find these files on it.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated - thanks for your time!

Phone: Motorola V330
USB Cable: V60 (it worked in the past).
I was able to install and use MPT on my laptop. Then the subsequent hard drive crash required me to install everything to a new hard drive. I installed the MPT the same way as before (MPT version 1.23c, then update to v2.21b, then live update). One thing I noticed was that the latest live update nowadays downloads to version 4.xxx something, while my previous MPT update was up to only 3.11. However, Windows XP would not communicate with the phone anymore no matter which version I used. It always get to "initiating..." prompt and stall there.
Checking the device tab in the System, the built in modem of my laptop occupies COM3, the only port available for the system. Apparently, looks like the Motorola modem would occupy the same COM3 and was not allowed to use it. I've tried disabling the internal modem and replace it, but the computer can't find the Motorola driver. All of the posts before this one point to some files which my PC has, but no modem driver was found.
I need some hints:
1. Which would be the correct version I should use?
2. I've tried turning the phone off/on, disconnect/reconnect as someone suggested, nothing worked so far. What is the proper procedure to get past "Initiating..."? If possible, please print the entire procedure of installation.
3. If COM3 is the correct port, what would be the right way to disable it and where/what is the Motorola driver that I will use? How to install?
