Hey, I just got my Motorola V3 Razr for cingular, and I want to make and transfer mp3 ring tones onto my computer and I am not totally familiar in how to do so. My phone has the firewire camera connection on it, i connect it to my computer but it says i need to install software for it to function. Can anyone give me info on what software i need for my phone to function, i have bluetooth on my laptop as well but it seems that i cant transfer files through bluetooth.

Hi there,
You need Motorolas phone tools.
The 'lite' version of this comes with the phone and you should have got this. This is all you need. It's a simple case of dragging and dropping the MP3s over.
Download (delux version - mostly unecessary and costs 30 euros)

For an easy way to edit MP3s for use I recommend the free itunes and the following -
First, in iTunes you need to go to Prefs, then Import, then change your import settings to mp3 (I used 112kbps, quality is less important than compactness for my ring tones). Then, find the song you want, and go through the song to figure out which part you want to be the ring tone (IE: 00:30.00 to 00:42.00) and then Command-I to get info on the song. Under the Options tab in the Get Info menu, check both start and stop time and enter the start and stop times for the ring tone section (IE: Start time 00:30.00 End Time 00:42.00). You may want to play it once to make sure it's well cropped. Then, just select the song in your library and go to Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3. It will automatically convert ONLY the portion of the song that you selected to a new, cropped MP3 file, which can then be dragged onto the desktop and used. This is infinitely easier than trying to crop and convert in another application, and now you can have the coolest ring tone on the block in half the time! iTunes is free to download from www.apple.com/itunes For those that dont know its also a great music player and easy to use music cd burn software.
Hope this helps!

Well, the cingular version v3 comes only with the little motorola accessory to hang from your phone, the phone charger, the manual, the phone itself, and an extra firewire adapter, no software. Where can i get the free version of Motorola Phone Tools?? THanks for the help guys, and if you get a chance, definitely get this phone. Its kick ass

Hi,
I just got a RAZR from Cingular as well and purchased MPT. When I connect my phone via USB, the dial on the clock (busy status) just keeps spinning in MPT and it never detects the phone. I tried General Setup as well which gave the same result. Perhaps Cingular as some special lock that prevents you from transferring any files except through their data service?

Make sure you have updated the software. The lastest ver is 3.23e (something like that). Run program again. You may need to unplug usb from phone and or turn off phone while the clock is spinning.

I have the latest version but it still doesn't seem to work. It just hangs while it's connected... it seems like it recognizes that it is connected by showing the clock hands, but they just keep spinning as if it couldn't negotiate properly. Is there any additional driver that I need?
