Hi,
I just got my v265 for Verizon and having done some searching I found that mp3s will work on the v265.
Here is the method I used:
1. Use iTunes or another mp3 player to convert a clip to 24bit mono @ 16kHz.
(Get info on a song and you can set how much of a song you want converted under options)
(My settings: >Preferences in iTunes, >Importing, then: Import Using MP3, Settings: Custom: Stereo Bit Rate: 48kbps, don't use variable encoding, use a 16kHz sampling rate and mono, I also kept both options for smart encoding and filtering turned on)
(To convert, select the song, go to the advanced menu and select convert to mp3.)
2. Export the file and change the 3 letter extension from .mp3 to .mid (if you're using Mac OS X, Windows 2000 or XP you'll have to enable the option to see the extension)
3. Email the music files to your mobile phone (should work to send to ##########@vzwpix.com, where the #'s represent your ten digit number)
4. Select the music .mid file on your phone and either save or apply it as a ringtone directly.
Notes:
Sending messages to your phone at the ##########@vzwpix.com address will incur the $.25 charge for a picture message as well as the air time to download the message.
You can send more than one music file per message to avoid multiple charges (not sure what the limit is, but Verizon's pix place at vzwpix.com has a lower limit for sending than sending directly does).
I have only tried this particular bit rate and frequency because that was what was mentioned and it worked-other bit rates (both lower and higher) may work just fine.
Hope this is helpful,
Josh

jdbraun2002 is correct in his tutorial for uploading mp3s and images via your <phonenumber>@vzwpix.com.
The only restriction i have found is based on file size to transfer, no particulars on style/bitrate for encoding... my v265 ringtones sound best at 112 or 128 kbps and you can get about 20 seconds of mp3 audio at that.
The limitation if you use the vzwpix site is about 243k, contrary to the specified limit of 350k - for some reason vzw packages your message with about 100k of header information. ?
I have not tried the direct e-mail method but i will post again if/when i do.
I'm using XP and Sound Forge to edit files with.

John,
I just wanted to add that by using an email client on a computer, you can go far over the limits imposed by vzwpix.com. I've sent messages with up to 500k (haven't tried anything more yet).

As of today, i'm not sure if today was the official update...
Verizon now scans your e-mails and vzwpix activity and filters out mp3s even if you rename the extension.
If anyone knows another workaround please let me know.

Ok iI think verizon has gone overboard with this one, if the last person said is true, about scanning the emails and filtering out the mp3 files. I think it is illegal for them to do that, mp3s are not viruses, ok they prob could be, but this gives VW no right to scan and delete attachments without users permission.

the emailing tactic will no longer work for mp3's. Does anyone know how to obtain mp3 ringtones for our v265s? I dont mind paying for them, but none of the applications on GetItNow are offering mp3 ringtones, just crappy MIDI tones. When i go to GetItNow, and select GetTones, i select the True Tones option, but the only option there is for UNIVISION spanish mp3 ringtones. Where the heck can i find an application on GIN to get an mp3 ringtone on my phone...Please help.

Well, I just tried getting those ringtones on my phone, and I don't think it would work even if I did it correctly. I also found out that what Verizon is doing is legal. vzwpix.com owns the mailbox, and you are just using it. Plus Verizon probably wouldn't be dumb enough to not have this checked out by their lawyers... DUH!
John, can you give me the directions for sound forge, I would like help with that too.
Good bye
thanks for that short lived help
not sarcastic^^
