Ok using the method described I've been able to transfer both an .mp3 and an .mid of a clip I created. I got the messages and saved the files but they don't play. Any ideas?

ive sent myself an .mp3 file also and the same thing happens. it just kinda repeats with nothing playing. is verizon filtering out the .mp3 file like an above poster said?
at -edited- you can send yourself a sample .mp3 to check if your cell phone is compatible with the service. well, i got a sample sound of a cow and it sounds perfect on my phone. It definately is not midi either. why doesnt verizon block this out?
website said the file size may have to be smaller than 30k, that left about 8-9 seconds at the quality someone posted guidelines for. still no sound after i cropped the song to less than 9 seconds and 30k.

Verizon now scans your e-mails and vzwpix activity and filters out mp3s even if you rename the extension.
If anyone knows another workaround please let me know.

John,
I just (now at 4pm on January 16) sent myself an email using Mozilla's Thunderbird email client with an mp3 attached (renamed as a .mid) and it sent perfectly and plays perfectly on my v265.
Hope you and the others can find similar workarounds to the problems you've been having.
Oh, and FYI: the file had no spaces in the name, and was less than 100k (89kbytes).

hey guys..thanks so much for all the information..really appreciate it...I followed all the above rules but I everytime I change the .mp3 extension to .mid of a 90 kb clip I get a message that says the file might become unusable. I ignore it and then send the file to my phone. It recieve it but the clip doesn't play. However, when I send an actual midi file that works. Why isn't the mp3 clip playing? Is it because the file bcame unusable or does it have to do with Verizon blocking the mp3 clips? But if the latter is so why do they allow midi files to be sent and how would they be able to tell the difference from a "fake" midi and a real midi since the extensions would be the same?
anyone else know how to use .mp3 clips as ringtones!!
Thanks a lot!

I'm running Gmail through Thunderbird client, yet whenever I recieve it on my phone, it gives me: "File type not recognized," when it clearly does recognize it. It's labeled as a .mid, it recieves it reading it like a midi file, yet it doesn't recognize it. This is probably going to drive me insane in the near future. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you think it could be because the file itself is 129 kB?

I've been trying to send to my phone as described, and get this message (phone number *'d of course):
| Quote: | The following addresses had delivery problems:
<503*******@vzwpix.com>
Permanent Failure: Other address status
Delivery last attempted at Sat, 22 Jan 2005 19:22:30 -0000

What the heck is this?? I'm sure I could figure out the rest as long as I could get the file (or anything) to my phone.

Ok, so all I did was change my email client from outlook to thunderbird...and everything worked. Imagine that! My wife's phone now plays her favorite song, and life is good.
Thanks for all the help from everybody who contributed ideas here. I've been watching this forum for the past week and a half trying the various pieces of advice. The thunderbird bit is what did it, I'm sure.

Check it out know someone from verizon and you can download songs to your phone very easy. Go to walmart.com then to music section search for favorite artist or song then it will if you want play a 30 sec clip for you. All you have to do is right click on song you want then click "save as target" then rename whatever.mid. Then use your email and send it to your phone using area code number@vzwpix.com. Once it arrives play it save it as ringtone and whala it is now a ringtone. Still mp3 but works around verizon filter.
