I have read 13 pages of this tread and have a question and maybe some advice.
If I create my own MP3 files or get them somewhere else and rename them with a .mid extention they will work as ringtones if I can get them loaded on my phone?
If the answer to the above question is yes then why not just use MPT. I use it to upload Midi's directly from my PC and they work fine.

Seeing how no one has replied to my previous post and the fact that I have read elsewhere in this forum (in the reviews section) that the V265 will not play MP3's I gues my question has been answered.

I use US Cellular. And I have a USB Cable. Anyone tell me how to play mp3's? I tried directly uploading an mp3 to my phone. I haven't tried converting it first to the specified settings, then sending it to my phone. Anyone have any answers? Thanks.

why wont it work for me? i downloaded the songs from walmart.com and alot of other websites and re named it with the .mid extension and then i emailed it to my phone and i got the message okay and everything but then when i got to play it I hear nothing and so I tried go to the menu and pressing "save items" and it says that that file type is not recognized, and since I have Alltel and they don't filter mp3 files i tried that and it also says that the file type isnt recognized. If somebody has experienced the same problem and then got it to work for them email me at -editted-@gmail.com

Great topic, full of information allowing me to have a dozen or so new readily identifiable ring tones.
I went a slightly different route (closer to the OP), slightly modified by the supplementary information.
1) Buy songs from Wal-mart.
2) Download audacity
3) Play songs in WMP and record in Audacity
4) Cut and edit in audacity to get the ringtone I want. Add fade in and out.
5) Export to MP3 then rename MP3 extension to MID. I had to mess with Audacity to get 30 second downloads under 100K, but some of them are now longer than 30 seconds and still smaller and working. I set the bit rate on MP3 to 24 from the default 128. This results in much lower quality audio, but the song is still good enough for a ring tone
6) E-mail .mid files to the phone using Thunderbird. ( I had it so I used it, someone said Outlook wouldn't work so I trusted them.)
7) Play the message, opening the message starts the playback, but the right softkey says play, then the menu allows you to save the file as a ring tone. The 5 way key allows you to move between multiple attachments. I could get 3 ringtones per message YMMV.
I hated to give up the 4 year old V60, but this topic has made it palatable. The one gripe I had with the old phone was seeing who was calling. Now I know if the ring is music it must be picked up, and I have a good idea of who's on the other end.

I purchased the V265 Software and Data Cable kit for transfering data between my computer and phone and I was wondering if I will still have to switch the format to .mid since Im not trying to bypass my provider, I know ill still have to change the size, the sampler and the file to mono but will I have to change it to midi? (also a friend tried to tell me that Verizon will still charge me for using the data cable to send and receive data, that is incorrect right? Im not using anything with their server to transfer data through my computer.) I figured buying the cable and software for $30.00 wasnt bad so I can do games, pictures back and forth, ring tones and all that shit without paying Verizon a cent.
Thanks in advance.
