When I right click on them and hit save as target I get a whole bunch of numbers but they dont say .mp3 but it says save as MPEG Layer 3 Audio. How can I change that so it goes to .mid do I just add .mid to the end and let is say save as MPEG Layer 3 audio?

There is an easy way to upload quality MP3 ringtones to your Phone. I will post a how-to in the near future. I never thought it would be this easy after reading all the previous posts, but it really is.
The small software program I use is shareware, so it cost me like $20.00 to keep it active past the 2 week trial. But thats cheap compared to the $3.00 ringtones from Verizon ! Besides you can make an awful lot of ringtones in 2 weeks if you don't want to register it. It will take a segment of any Mp3 file you choose and make it a ringtone suitible in size and frequency. Then e-mail to your phone via : yournumber@vzwpix.com. Sounds awesome !

I tried this (the non-walmart way) and it worked tonight. Here were the steps I took:
1) Take mp3 song and open it in (Adobe Audition, Sony SoundForge, etc.) and crop out the part you wish to use as the ringtone (try to stay within 15-25 seconds.)
2) Save that clip as a mp3 file - I saved mine as 40kbit MP3 in single channel (mono.)
3) Open that mp3 file in (Winamp, Foobar, Windows Media Player, etc.) and remove it's ID3 information (clear the tags.) I did this as a precautionary step to make sure that verizons once mentioned filtering of mp3s as per this thread earlier on wouldn't detect it by the id3 headers.
4) Rename the file from filename.mp3 to filename.mid.
5) Emailed it to (NPANXX1234@vzwpix.com) with my desktop email client - I used thunderbird but I'd assume outlook would work just as well.
6) Wait between 2-5 minutes for phone to recieve message - open it - open the attachment - go to store it - set as ringer... and..???
Voila! worked like a champ!
Thanks for the info!

how much does it cost this way to recieve the ringtones? ive sent two mp3s so far - i cant imagine it'd be that expensive since i already pay for the pix/messaging/internet options on the plan or is that only a part of it?
