I just switched from Sprint to Cingular last week and purchased a Motorola V400. I like many things about the phone, save the most important--when using the phone, the reception is not great (at best) to downright horrible (at worst). I have a constant "hissing" sound once a number is dialed, and when I'm talking with someone, they cut in-and-out on a regular basis. The reception, too, sounds somewhat metallic. This has all happened whether I have 3, 4, or 5 bars, and whether I'm here at home (Round Rock, TX), or when I've traveled, even as far as NY. Is this a network problem, or something with Motorola phones? A friend of mine who worked for AT&T says that Motos are notorious for problems like this. I called customer service, and they said I should take the phone to be tested, but my experience with their "tests" are that they always say the phone is OK. Is there something I can do? Should I exchange the phone? Or just get a new phone completely? Thanks.

Exchange it for another phone. I have both the V400 & V600 with great RF. However, I am in California. It is hard to say whether it is the provider's fault or the phone.
It sounds like it is the phone itself it your are getting bad RF even with full bar.

I may be wrong on this info cause i got it from ATT teck guy where I'm at. ATT when Gsm first so they put up tower and use the old 850Mhz first hten later on at the better 1900Mhz so by do in that you will pick up where hte other might left off and he said that is why ATT have much better reception and less drop call again where i'm at (UT) the Tmo, cause Tmo use only 1900Mhz and Tmo is lossing it's battle here for ATT. Infact if you get a quardband fone from Tmo it is only triband. Example V600 is quarband but with Tmo is now only triband

hey old fool, thanks for the response. I set my phone for the 850/1900 network, and it seems to really have cleared up any problems I've had. I've been all over this weekend with my phone, and no problems whatsoever. you're awesome! thanks!
