On an Vodafone branded Mobile you need to set DRM at the mp3 files to use them as an ringtone. Otherwise it won't work. On an O2 branded you don't need to do this.
You cann add DRM to your ringtones with an tool from SonyEricsson...

DRM is Digital Rights Management, Vodafone have put this restriction on their handsets to stop customers infringing copywrite laws....
In order to put DRM protection onto mp3 files in order for them to work you can use a tool from the Developers World section of the Sony Ericsson website.
it is listen on there, however you need to be signed up in order to download it.

At Vodafone Brand you need at least Firmware R2V001 for working. You can update your phone by any Sony Ericsson Shop....
