Would be greatful for any info on avoiding early termination charges on sprint. The phone service (ie. signal quality) consistently is poor, the customer service horriffic, and I can't wait to return to a GSM carrier.

Any help, sugggestions would be appreciated.

Most cellular providers give you 14 to 15 days (dependent on provider) for a trial for the service--you can break the contract if you don't like what you see and only pay the plan fees, not the early termination fee for breach of contract. I believe Sprint has a 14-day period in which you can see if their service is right for you.

Unfortunately, after that trial period to try out the phone and the service, if you break your contract before the end of the 1 or 2 years you are responsible for the early termination fee. It should have been thoroughly explained to you when you signed the contract for your Sprint PCS service. If you didn't agree to the terms, at the time you did have the option of not signing it.

winter_born's right, otherwise you have to finish your 1 or 2 year plan or pay the full amount of termination

The answer is easy. I used to work for Sprint PCS. Then they closed are call center and laid-off 1,200 people.

They will waive the early termination charge for the following reason: If you move to an area that does not have Sprint PCS coverage they will waive your early termination fee. Check out the coverage maps, come up with an area that does not have coverage, and give them an address within that area and tell him your moving.

So, can you provide an example on how would I do this? and what do I need to know in order to make this work. I really need to get off Sprint and avoid early termination fees. Please help by all means

call sprint customer serive.
say, "hi, im moving to nowheretown, usa < useally the deserts in the western part of the us. > and i understand you dont have service there. its really important that i be able to get a good signal on my phone because my < kids > need to get ahold of me."
you have to be somewhat stern about this. and if they try to talk you into anything other than what you want. hang up and call back the next day maybe.

i just got sprint to terminate my service for no fee. it took about 3 times calling them and me getting really aggitated and starting the conversation out that way.

how did i get them to terminate mine?
well, i live in northern indiana currently, and according to thier coverage map its right in the center of a coverage area. but me and my dad could very rarely get a signal in the house, and even when we could it was usually dropped within 2 minutes.
the first lady i talked to tried to talk me into adding a roaming package. the one my dad talked to gave him a credit for a new phone. then i called again and finally was successful.

you just have to be affirmative and persistant.

If your current address/primary usage place is determined to be a known weak area by the provider, they are compelled by the FCC to let you out of your contract. If the Sprint engineeering stff provides via known issues or a trouble ticket that it is not a good area, you will be let out. All carriers are compelled to do this. Most honor this too.

Don't judge CDMA by this experience, it is a technology that can handle greater capacity than GSM. If your in a bad area for that carrier, you should go to something different but the technology of CDMA is really rather good, though. Thought I'd share...

Well i just tried this today. It totally worked. I have 6 months left on my 2 year agreement. And told them i was moving to texas, so i found a small town called Eagar. I also told them i was out there a week ago and had no service. "And before i went out to Eagar i had called sprint and the person i talked to said that i could have my early termination waived if their was no service out there". They couldn't even find it on their map. So as of right now im a free agent icon_smile.gif
