This forum is great. I have learned quite a few things, but would like to know if anyone knows if the LG L1200 is really unlocked when purchased through Cingular. I read in another forum that it was unlocked as it is a World Phone (850/1800/1900).
I will be travelling overseas and would like to use it there if it is unlocked. I understand that it is not illegal to unlock phones, but that Cingular won't help with that. In case it is locked, how might one get it unlocked?
While I could buy a unlocked phone (900/1800/1900) that could be used there, it would cause roaming (on Cingular's tab) if used back in the States. Arkansas uses 850 mhz, so I learned here! I'd rather not spend the extra if I can use my LG L1200.
The LG L1200 and C1300's are tough little phones. I have one cable tha I have used to cutomize and save pictures too.
And thanks for all the good info posted here!

I have a LG L1400, I'm assuming that most of the features are the same as your phone. World phone can be selected under Settings -> Connection -> World Phone. Switch it from America to World. If you can't, make sure World Phone option is activated. If you type 2945#*# you can access firmware settings. You can activate world phone under 'Eng Mode'.

race is correct, you only have to change the settings. Locked/unlocked deals with what carrier you use the phone with. So, unless you intended to change carriers, you don't need to worry about unlocking it.

Thanks Race and Celtic! The access code was interetsing. Yes, I have been able to switch to world phone. However when I go overseas, I intend to purchase a sim card there and new provider. I went to the Cingular store but they knew nothing about it. In fact the lady had some strange idea about how unlocking would damage the function of the phone. Thanks for your help and any info you have.

Try this site, Joe. It has interesting info on unlocking the L1200, and they offer unlocking service. It might be something you want to look into. Good luck!

I have an LG C1300. When I type 2945#*# from the main screen, nothing happens. Only "Options" and "Back" Anybody knows from where should I type 2945#*#
