switching phones you do not lose your numbers. Verizon has a cellbrite machine that can copy you old contacts into any new phone.

Also verizon uses CDMA network versus GSM. Two different technologies

i've tried AT&T, cingular, and verizon in my 4 years of college... i've been the happiest w/verizon.

i just switched from the samsung A310 or something like that (and had it for 2 years and have been through hell and back w/that phone but i've always been pleased w/verizon) to the LG-VX6100.

since i live 3 hours from home and i live in a college town i have to rely on my cell phone everyday. when i first switched to verizon 2 years ago i found out we didnt have a secure verizon wireless connection in auburn so i was constantly on analog and it killed my battery life and only worked 70% of the time.

when first verizon came to auburn some 2 months later after buying out cellular one i was on roam 24/7. i NEVER used my phone because i was scared to get charged and i didnt want to use my roommates phone because i didnt want to use their peak minutes. after a week i broke down and my roommate let me use her phone... verizon took care of all my roaming charges and told me to use my phone as much as i wanted. about 2 weeks i was on digital... no analog... no roaming...

as for not being able to recover the phone numbers you still may be able to. i work as a waitress and i was carrying a tray of 8 drinks and water fell all over my front side and my cell phone was ruined because i keep it in my apron. i had to drive 3 hours that night to go back home for the weekend. the verizon in auburn couldnt do much because i didnt have insurance but they were nice enough to pull all of my numbers off my phone. they were supposed to charge me $5 but didnt because they felt bad.

when i went home the next day i went to verizon w/my parents and my dad told the guy my phone would turn on but you couldnt see anything (he left the water part out) and the verizon guy was like, "must be a software problem" and they were able to transfer my numbers into the refurbished phone.

the LG VX6100 is a good phone. there are things i dont like about it... but i'll get over them. the external part of the phone will blink if you change signals to let you know if you're on digital, analog, or x1.

my bf has t-mobile and my phone will work better on the interstate and highways.

i never cared for cingular because i had so many problems w/them and it seemed like they were a wireless ad for false advertisements and they also charged for a lot of BS stuff you dont need and will never use.

maybe the new cingular is better? but my biggest bias against it is that cingular to me will always be bellsouth (before the name changed) and i HATE bellsouth. they've made me a much poorer college student than i already am.

Yes, you can transfer numbers with non-GSM phones as long as your phone turns on, but not if it goes dead - and I don't mean the battery.

Program this as your voice Mail Number:

p=pause (it should be an option in entry mode)

i would RATHER HAVE ROAMING than no service at all. Verizon has the largest coverage and again they may have roaming but roaming is " BETTER " than no service at all.

Depends where you live. I would rather have service than dropped calls and lousy coverage as I had with Verizon. With Cingular I don't have any dropped calls or get No Service in my house.

I don't like Cingular, especially the way they bill, but just don't have a choice icon_sad.gif

I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD DEFINITELY GO FOR AT&T WIRELESS RIGHT NOW, JUST BECAUSE CINGULAR HAS BOUGHT IT AND AT&T WIRELESS' CUSTOMERS CAN ENJOY ALL BENEFITS OF TWO COMPANIES (AT&T's CUSTOMERS ARE ABLE TO SWITCH TO CINGULAR, CINGULAR'S ARE NOT). Therefore, I do not know what people are waiting for... AT&T has the most coverage (cingular+At&t+all other GSM operators across the country for free). I know a friend of mine, he has Verizon and when he travels up north (MI) there is roaming area (and he's got America's Choice) he has to pay for it. I was visiting NY State for a while and there were operators like Rogers, Fido, US030, and others, when I get home and got my bill, I did not see any charges for roaming. So, that's true if they say they don't charge you for roaming....

More than that, AT&T's customers have free incoming messages, so they don't have to worry about bills when they sign up to get news alerts, weather, show times, etc....

I'm not sure if you are still able to find any AT&T stores (Cingular might have replaced them icon_mad.gif )

The coverage map for verizons Americas Choice plan looked good at first, but if you travel very much you will run into roaming areas and get charged out the butt. [quote]

Um..Verizon has no Roaming Charges... And as far as coverage...On the large scale...There is a Contest where a phone from every major carrier is placed in the back of a car and drives all around the United states continuely Making calls over and over. Then the number of drop calls is recorded and verizon wins by a landslide everytime. It also has By far the Smallest Churn Rate..There is a reason for this. I now work for Verizon, but I used to sell Sprint, Nextel, At@T, and T-Mobile... My girlfriend has Verizon and I personally have a T-Mobile phone. (I have a T-Mobile phone because Sprint screwed me over, and Now my Deposit for Verizon in 1000$) Verizon kicks ass in almost every aspect in my opinion, Except for Deposits. But T-mobile does vary with its reception phone by phone.. My motorola V-300 is very reliable, even when compared to Verizon. But that is only with the v-300. Almost everyother model does little in comparing to Verizon. The truth is..No wireless company can be 100 % reliable in every location. But Verizon Does put Billions of dollars back into their company, Buying new cells, Companies, ect. Which is more than any other cellular service. There are even rumor's Verizon is going to buy out sprint since they both us CDMA technology. I've sold almost every major cellular service, save Cingular, and I choose to sell Verizon over any because of their coverage, their customer service, and there buisness ethics, buy far. ( And their prices aint nothing to laugh at anymore ) F.Y.I yu can pres * 228 on your verizon phone when traveling and update your phone and connect to local towers for better reception.

Interesting what you said about inside and outside. I found that inside a supermarket with my Cingular V180 gets 1 bar more than what I got with Verizon's V265, and both get 5 bars outside.

ouchhhh!!! I say Kill the CDMA.(Verizon) GSM is the way to go.

When you did the phone check for V180.That particular phone sucks when it come receptions. They seem to have problems in locating the towers.try a different phone before you decide to stay with verizon. You got a simcard anyway. icon_grin.gif
Just switch the card to a different phone.Let's see if you can do that with verizon.
