CDMA is way more secure than GSM. YEah GSM may be more convient for the consumer when it comes to handset replacement, but anyone that knows anything about wireless technology will tell you that your chances of getting cloned, hacked and intercepted are way greater with GSM opposed to CDMA. That is way there are more Government Contracts with Verizon and IDEN than any other networks because of their security. Who care about your phonebook. Start saving your contact to a SD card instad of your SIM card. That way you can just transfer your contacts. Geeezzz people.

Thanks for digging up an old thread.
Anyways, I guess I will comment.
I've had three carriers.
VZW was first. Never worked in most places I travel (CDMA coverage is bleh in my area).
Then Tmo, GSM was way better, but the CSR's were bleh.
Then cingular, (now the new at&t), and so far, it's the best of both worlds. Of course, I also work for ATT. And as for CDMA being more secure, that is not true, because by comparison both are just as secure, which in reality, both are not secure at all if you know what you're doing. I also agree deciding which career is best by simply talking voicemail is pretty petty. Also, not all phones will allow you to store your contacts to your microSD. Some Samsung phones don't allow you. some older LG phones don't let you - I do know that PDAs (like BBs, Palms, etc) let you, but that is moot. Anyways, that is my 3 cents.

My family had Verizon Wireless for the longest and had nothing but problems. For one thing we travel to Massachusetts and could not get a signal on the island we stay on. We had to walk across to the beach to get a signal and lucky if you get to finish your call. We went through so many of their phones. The customer service was so rude. The coverage sucks. The phones are boring, the Operating System on the phones are so slow, We could not even get coverage in our local Wal*Mart and that's before the Super Center came in and we still could not get a signal, the Internet Browser is slow, the contract is so confusing, the phones are expensive and rather large for my taste, the Plans are expensive, i have a huge list of reasons why I despise them. And for the last straw with Verizon... Ok we got a bill, and we paid it over the phone and the next day they cancelled our account and still bugged us saying we did not pay it. They kept sending us bills. We switched to cellular one and it was an excellent service provider excellent coverage no problems at all. Now we have AT&T and love it!!!!! [/img]

My Cingular phone picked up just as well everywhere i went. I travel quite a bit with my job so the only plans i am interested in are the nationwide ones. The coverage map for verizons Americas Choice plan looked good at first, but if you travel very much you will run into roaming areas and get charged out the butt. Cingulars nationwide plan has absolutely no roaming as long as your in one fifty states and also Puerto Rico. Verizon advertises this IN calling(which is free mobile to mobile), but it dosent even work everywhere while your phone is not roaming. Cingular has free mobile to mobile that work as long as your phone has service.... Basically i went to Verizon with an open mind, trying to better myself but i was disapointed. So i am going to stick Cingular. oh and one other thing i have a Quad band GSM phone that even though it may be roaming it will work all over the world. I know i have used it in France and Italy |
Not true by my experience. I live in downtown Richmond, VA with my girlfriend. I have a Blackberry 8330 with Verizon, and she has a Blackberry Pearl through Cingular. On our front porch (not to mention everywhere in the city) I have full bars unexclusive while she is lucky to pick up a roaming signal anywhere on the block. And there are dead zones like that for her all over the city. We tried new phones, but nothing worked. Shes joining my Verizon plan in 2 months when hers runs out.

I hope that continues, there are stories for each company that are bad and good. Keep a watch over your account and remember to check your usage before your bill cycle ends to avoid a high bill. Customer service can help you out, but every system has its limitations
