I currently have a Motorola T720 through Cingular, and I recently bought a new cell phone off ebay. I bought a Motorola V600 (yes, I just recently realized there might be some problems with this phone, but ill adress that later). My current phone has a sim card, and my new phone requires one. Since my new phone is unlocked, I heard that means I can just place my old sim card in the new phone... Is this true? *Will it mess up my bill/contract in ANY way? Like, will I get any new activation charges, etc. (btw my contract isn't up.. i still have about 8 months left).
Thanks so much!!!!

You can use your sim card with new phone if it is unlock. You don't need to call your provider to do anything.

ok thank you. Lets say that I were to buy a phone that wasn't unlocked, but was made for cingular... Would I still be able to use it. Like currently I have cingular now, and lets just pretend that in the future I upgrade my phone again to another cingular phone that isn't unlocked. Since they both use the same SIM card, would it need to be unlocked inorder to be used?
thanks again

you can use your cingular sim card on ANY unlocked GSM phone -or- ANY cingular locked gsm phone....provided that the phone supports cingular's frequencies

Ok, so I can switch my ATT service to Cingular, and get their free cheap-o phone, and then take the SIM card and stick it in my unlocked Nokia 6820.
Would the mMode button work to access WAP on Cingular? Or would there have to be some firmware/software update magic performed before I can use WAP properly with Cingular? Would I need to change anything else to use GPRS via Bluetooth on my laptop?

mMode was AT&T's branded WAP product. You will see various posts throughout this forum about getting the settings right so that their phone's WAP browser connect with Cingular (they call it MEdia Net). I can't guarantee all the same features/options - they're probably slightly different.
To answer your question, yes you could convert to Cingular, get their free phone (use it as a backup), and plug that SIM card into any unlocked phone. As for plugging it into another Cingular phone, I think that depends, as I'm not sure how Cingular locks their phones. As they had a couple different networks, they may have them locked by area/network (i.e., they operate 310-150, 310-170, and 310-410). I'm sure if the phones were bought for the same market your sim will work in the other locked phone, but there's a slim chance it won't if the phone was bought in one of the other markets.
