After months of also experiencing voicemail failure, a Cingular tech today FINALLY knew what the problem was.
I also use the Fast Forward charger and love it. However, it sometimes get 'confused' and the solution, according to its instructions, is to pull its power plug for a few seconds. Doing that leaves my cellphone still forwarded. So, I go to forwarding and select 'Cancel All'.
Well, it turns out, that doing that also cancels my voicemail! After all, if you don't answer your call, the call is FORWARDED to your voicemail, right?
It turns out that there's no easy way to manually un-forward your calls. The tech says that it isn't just my Moto V551, it's Cingular system-wide. To manually cancel forwarding and keept your voicemail working, you must re-edit the forwarding number in the SETTINGS! I can't believe its that awkward, but according to the tech its true. So, I must keep a record of my voicemail access number (which is not the same as my phone number) and re-edit that forwarding field the next time my Fast Forward charger gets 'confused'.
Now, here's what I don't get: If the FF Charger knows how to restore the access number without you telling it what it is, how does it do it? I would think that by whatever means the FF Charger does it can be done manually, if only I can find that secret!

There are basically three forwarding options (yes, there can be more). If you're unavailable, the default setting is for the phone to go to your message center (its programmed in the SIM card, so you shouldn't have to memorize it).
The second is no forwarding.
The third is forward all calls.
The FF works off the CF1 (or CF2) number in your phone's phone book. It sends the phones instructions to forward all calls to CF1 or CF2.
When you push the cancel button, it tells the phone to change the call forwarding option back to the "unavailable" setting, which should recall your message center #.

after I cancelled all my forwarding and tried to use the phone again, it DID pick up the preset phone number for voicemail, BUT I am using SBC Unified Communications. (This is great for Fast Forward users by the way) and I had to manually put that number in. It is so nice to get all my messages from my business line AND my cell togther.
