How exactly does it work? Can you forward to a phone number in a different area code? Does it roll back to voicemail if the landline isn't answered? What about if the landline is busy?

I talked to a guy at the store and it sounded like he really had no clue how this worked.

He said it connects to your phone line, but all the calls go through your phone and it doesn't actually forward at all. If that's the case, why do you have to sign up for $2.99/mo call forwarding if it doesn't use it?

I have a cellsocket I used with an earlier phone that worked on that principal but you would never connect it to a live phone line. The device itself just simulated dialtone and ringing for any phones connected to it.

I have it for my wife's phone; sounds like the guy you spoke to didn't know anything...

Here's how it works... For the price of the cradle + $2.99 a month, you get:

a) a charger (the cradle)
b) unlimited minutes that don't count against your plan minutes

It works by setting up a phonebook entry in your phone called "cf1" (or cf2). When you plug the phone into the cradle, the cradle turns on call forwarding to your landline # - there is no phone cord attached to the cradle.

Your incoming calls will show up on your bill, but the minutes will not be deducted from your minute allotments. I travel A LOT for work; I like that I can call my wife on her cell phone; on my bill it shows as a mobile to mobile call, on her's they show as call forward minutes (unlimited for the $2.99/month you pay), and we get the benefit of one of us being on a landline.

It's not designed to place outgoing calls; you need to take the phone out of the cradle (and therefore disable the call forwarding) to place calls.

Hope this helps!

No.

No.

The same thing that happens if someone had just called the landline.

This is a great service:
1. I only have to give out one telephone number.
2. Phone is being charged while in the cradle.
3. I can pick up any phone in the house.
4. *It does not use my minutes.
5. It solves the problem of poor cell phone reception at home.

* It only effects INCOMING calls

That sounds good. What happens when the landline is busy? Does it go to cingular voicemail or do they get a busy signal? And if you don't answer does it go back to voicemail or do you need an answering machine on the landline? Thanks.

From what I can tell, if you don't have call waiting on your home phone, they would likely get a busy signal (maybe there's an override - not sure). From personal experience, the call will forward to our home voicemail if there is no answer (not cell phone vm).

Also by different area code I meant different AC than the mobile number, not a different AC than the phone location. I was told by a cingular guy that it didn't matter but who knows? Thanks.

If you really want to know how it works why not check the Cingular web site for the information?

http://www.cingular.com/customer_service/fast_forward

This should answer all of your questions.

The answer to this question unfortunatly is no. I work about an hour from my home. If I bring the fast forward device with me and hook up the phone to it, it is a long distance charge. In other words you cant forward calls to a number outside your cell phones local area.

I'm having major problems right now with my Fast Forward device. Worked fine till a month or so ago. Love the concept, but am getting very frustrated.

Simply - I put the phone on the FF cradle and it doesnt work.

However after two phone calls to cust service totaling 90 mins over the last three weeks, it has been "fixed" each time. (sarcasm)

Oh - and my voicemail doesnt work either, but thats been "fixed" both times too. Aargh.

To Cingulars credit I was given 100 daytime minutes recently (plenty for me) to make up for it. But I'd rather the device work.

Just wanted to post a 'con' to the pro FF info already posted. Apparently the technology is not yet as perfect as I hoped.
