I guess I must be lucky. I just installed PhoneTools 3.0 with the Bluetooth USB adapter and have it up and running with no problems. Everything works great for transferring files back and forth. Turning the Bluetooth power on and off on the phone doesn't seem to affect the setup either as it automatically connects to the PC.

I got my new V551 last week and started playing with bluetooth this past weekend. I bought a Generic Bluetooth usb adapter, my computer recognizes the phone just fine, will transfer files to the phone, but that's it. I got MPT to try to do the rest, but in set up I get to the point in the bluetooth section with trying to pair with the phone, and nothing! I got the phone to save and verify the pin, but then the setup program comes back and say "Cannot pair with device" and I can't get any farther than that. I'm just frustrated with bluetooth!

Hello, I'm new to the forum, but I've read about 5000 posts on this topic, and I am not able to fix it. I've tried changing drivers, every USB port, uninstallin/reinstalling, buying another data cable, upgrading/downgrading versions of MPT, and nothing seems to work. I was able to ONCE transfer a melody over, and now have attempted to connect about 600 times with no luck. Does anybody have a reliable method (other than one already listed) to get this stupid thing to work... frustration is starting to kick in...

I too have had incredible trouble with Motorola Tools, first with Blue Tooth and then with a cable, which I purchased. Eventually with the cable, I got a connection with Outlook, but I had hoped to connect with my Palm Database instead. So I filed this product away. It's not there. By the way, do not torture yourself with the Motorola Help Desk. You would be better off flying directly to Schamberg and talking to the CEO - or to some distant country as that's likely where the desk is sited.
I don't believe this is a phone problem, unless the code is in error in the "firmware.

i just got a usb cahle for my phone and i made the mistake of not buying the software with the phone. I wanted to know if there is a way that i can download the software without having to buy it. Or if i do have to buy it, where can i buy it at the cheapest price.

I noticed allmost everyone with the problem has Cingular. I just got into a tuff with them because apparently they only allow Blackberry and Trio's to receive attachments in e-mail. I found a free version of MPT called MOBILedit it works ok, and also has problems picking up the phone through usb, Connects and disconnects with this program though you can tell it to look at a certain port only. Once I did that no more connection problems. I can edit phone numbers and send contacts, but problem accessing phone memory for transfering files. Used MPT and am having the same problem. Motorola said it was a bad phone. I think it was just a run around.
