Hello everybody - I am new in this site and forum and I was glad to find this forum - it's a great site - very fun and useful.
I have a very big and annoying problem - three months ago I bought my cell phone - nokia 3100. Two months ago I bought in E-Bay a usb data cable that promised to transfer data between my 3100 nokia and my pc.
(this is the exact cable i bought - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6320417095&ed=109 4841420000&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOT:US:3) - on the edge of the cable - its written <- NOK 7250 - and its not an original dku-5 cable but a cheap usb-to-serial usb data cable based on prolific chip.
I am a soldier - so i return home only in weekends most of the time so when I got my cable I was very happy - but I could not get this cable to work after hours and hours and days and nights of trying... I searched the web for help - sent E-Mails to NokiaPad (the provider of the cable - they didnt even sent me answer to all the emails I sent to them) but nothing works !!!
I read so much and tried so many drivers but nothing works...
the cable came with two cd - but the drivers in them didnt help me...
on the box of the cable - it mentioned the cable is from prolific... and the site of prolific to download drivers - buy none of the drivers there helped me...
the problem is this - I have two computers - one with windows XP and one with ME - in both of them when I plugged in the cable windows - "found new hardware" - recogenize the cable as - "usb data cable" and it doesnt recognize the original drivers... when i try to install the drivers from prolific site ("wd_pl-2303_h_hx") or and kind of driver from there (and i tried a lot - believe me...) it still doesnt work.
in windows in control panel in devices manager in lpt & com i cannot install the feature - "usb data cable (com #)" or "Prolific USB-to-serial comport(com#)" like i need and should...
someone gave me the usb driver site of nokiapad (http://ns66.newsbook.net/~nokiapad/) - but also the new driver there also doesnt work - but at least windows recognize the driver that fit to (usb data cable) and tries to install it - but stop because files are missing ("slabbus.sys, slabwh95.sys, slabwhnt, usb.u98").
I NEED YOUR HELP
If someone can help me with my big problem i will be very glad.
I cannot even install the driver to this usb data cable ore get device manager recognize this usb data cable and assign to him a com port...
I need to solve this problem as soon as possible and hope that someone will sucseed to help me.
Many thanks - Yours Erez.

Hi there, I've spent couple of hours reading all of your posts on this subject ... but it seems I haven't reached the end of this torture...
My problem:
I have a Nokia 3100 mobile and I've just bought a DKU-5 cable on Ebay
(http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5736552577&ssP ageName=STRK:MEWN:IT)
I've installed (uninstalled/installed)all the software provided (2 CDs!) but nothing happened ... as soon as I plug the cable in the phone, it says something like "Accessory/device (or whatever ... it's in Italian!?) not supported" ... is this the normal message or is it something worse (I just expected the PC not to 'see' the phone if it had no correct driver installed)
Please help since my problem lies at the very beginning of this neverending story!!
Thank you very much in advance
Max

ok guys, i signed on to this website bec i had exactly the same problem (even though it used to work fine last month!!) but it got fixed it right now.
basically, what i was looking for was a driver that will convert my USB to a COM port or a serial port (i think they're the same thing!)
and i found that driver. download the USB Serial Converter from http://www.mct.com.tw/driver.html and install it. Then install your DKU-5 driver. Then install Oxygen or PCSuite.
Then remove your wire and restart your computer. once it starts back up, put the wire back in. this time when the computer recognizes the wire, it will match the DKU-5 and the usb/serial port together.
Goto Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager and if you see your DKU-5 listed under your "Ports" (mine is listed as DKU-5 -> COM (COM4)") you know it is successful. At this point, plug in your phone and it should detect it. GOOD LUCK!
==
email me at faraz_chico at hotmail.com if it works or if it does not work. this has been giving me a BIG problem! I bought a second wire just because I thought the first one is busted. But that one also turned out to be a fake! (not Nokia orignial). So i spent $30 + $20 for two fakes, and I could've gotten an original for that much! still, whatever!! next time, i'll take care.
