Thanks to groo1887's post above I am now able to access the web from my A630. However, I can't send MMS with picture attachments or download ringtones. It's an unlocked T-mobile phone, I was formerly AT&T and then was switched to Cingular.
Anyone have any ideas?

How do i quad band my A630, because i have one, and its unlocked, but i need the 850 band for my network, and i have only the 900/1900... please help
your network setting should have that setting... I went to the motorola site...couldnt find that particular menu to set... but motorla menus dont differ much from phone to phone in the same age/technology group....
your phone is a quad band ... meaning that it is capable of 850/900/1800/1900 mhz carriers...from the factory they are set to auto scan.. in case that is not so... try this menu path...(from a V3 RAZR similar age and type) if you are in North america the only towers are 850/1900 ergo those are the only ones to be found... if you travel abroad you will most likely have to do this in the other country to pick up the foreign ntwork... sometimes the auto scan function leaves a little to be desired
From the stand by screen, press the Menu key.
Scroll to Settings and select by pressing the right soft key.
Scroll to Network, and select by pressing the right soft key.
Scroll to Network Setup, and select by pressing the right soft key. Scroll to Type, and select by pressing the right soft key.
Scroll to Manual, and select by pressing the right soft key.
Select Done, and select by pressing the left soft key.
The device will search for all available networks.
Scroll to the desired network and select View, by pressing the right soft key.
The device will display the Network ID.
To register on the network, select Register, by pressing the right soft key.
Dear Elmo,
I recently got a barely used (4 hrs) Motorola A630 triband phone for use on Cingular network. I shouldv'e called my provider as most of the cell ads on E-Bay said to But instead I just looked at my phone, found the band/frequency settings and saw 850/1900 and thought: " no problem then, I have 1900 right? I was wrong! I live in a somewhat rural area and apparently they use the 850 frequency. So I get my phone, I was so excited! I pop in my Cingular sim card. Phone powers up, NP. My text messages are there, no sim errors.... Cool, I think. I try to make a call, call fails. I go into setup, setup network, I only have a few choices. At the first screen that says : Network type, I scroll down, highlight it, try changing it w/ the right navigation key, it don't do anything. I select it w/ the softkey; in there it says Network type: Automatic, and that is it NO way to get manual no matter what I do(no matter how I select or what keys I use (soft or navigational), It won't change to anything!. Then below that there is and area to set frequency the only choices again are: Automatic, 900/1800, 1900.
Any ideas? I got this phone because after a bunch of Research I found that this was the only PHONE short of a big expensive clunky PDA that had all of these features: Camera, Bluetooth, built in full keyboard. I am not a big texter, I just DETEST typing stuff, w/ a reg phonepad! I put very few contacts or anything else into my phone because of this and I really need to put some reminders in.
Anyway, I am gonna check here soon and if I can't figure it out soon, I am gonna see if I can make a deal w/ someone on ebay that is selling these phones. Maybe someone will take pitty on me? I am not going to do a bunch of strange things to the phone that will mess it up. I can't afford it. lol.
Thanks!
Rhonda

I just got a Motorola E1070 and it's unlocked to make voice calls. I need to unlock the MMS and MediaNet Websessions for Cingular. I've found nothing on unlocking the E1070 yet.

Elmo,
I got to correct something.....
After speaking w/ the guy in the tech dept at Cingular yesterday, he checked in detail (2x) yesterday and he said that they actually have great coverage on the 1900 mhz in my area. So he had me get the IMEI #, I called it in later after phone was fully charged, still it cannot find a network, No signal symbol in the left corner instead of bars. We try setting up a new network, adding a new network, ect.... No network found. This second tech made a point of telling me that even though they would help as much as they could they weren't responsible since it wasn't there phone. Yes, I know that and understand but I think he was just frustrated and confused. The only other idea he had was that the LG takes 2g sim and my phone might require a 3g? He was not to sure of this though.
would doing a Master Reset on the phone help w/o doing any thing to unlock codes help maybe?
If I exchanged it I would have to have one of the big guys (power sellers) take pitty on me cause I bought this from an individual. She said the phone was working a week before she mailed it when listing the phone. She also has been searching for information to help me so I doubt that the phone is bad. lol. (this is the last thing the tech said out of frustration. " Maybe it is just a bad phone. They come from the factory that way sometimes." )
Thanks for resonding!

generally speaking the rural areas are 850 only...your device not having that frequency I perceive as the problem...
is it like that everywhere you go? or if you go to a more urban setting does the phone start working?
a quick lesson on 2g and 3g...
as far as cingular /att is concerned
2g is tdma service...old digital multinetwork devices...
2.5g is GSm/gprs/edge the type of technology that most GSM devices are using today... the GSM is the voice side and GPRS/edge is the data side the phones can only access voice or data at one time
3g is GSM /UMTS... not yet available in all areas the voice side is still GSM but the data is carried by a different medium...UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) which is just being rolled out now the phone can download a file and be in a voice call at the same time... similar to a DSL line for your home computer (at about the same speed too!)
the rep describing his simcard and service was somewhat correct but loses marks for describing the process and differences in the technologies
your problem is coverage not the phone... buy another model (preferably a quad band) and sell the one you have

Dear Elmo,
Thanks for the Sim lesson.
And the advice. I know I may be making something that should be easy difficult. But I have my reasons why I cannot simply Buy a new one and sell this one.
1. I don't have the money to buy till I sell.
2. There seems to be an explosion of this phone's availibility and the price has since went down on ebay. So if I sell it, I won't get enough to get a new one.
3. If there is a remote possibility that the phone is bad (Which I don't believe), I will not sell it to anyone else. I want to make SURE that it works first, period. That is just the kind of person I am. The seller was an individual and she has bent over backwards to help me. Even looked up info on the phone for fixes on my problems.
I had some interesting experiences yesterday. W/ what happened I am thinking that part of my prob in trying to make modifications, (open 850band ect...) is the software being TMOBILE. Several local Cingular people said even if we supposedlly have good 1900 coverage, That if I don't have the 850 band (there base network) that That is most likely the prob. Here is the link to the post I made in MOTO Talk....
More about that post...
He got features/ settings to work that I couldn't. (that's another reason I am thinking software?)
We had to leave cause the guy was getting busy and I didn't want to get him into trouble. It was still searching when we stopped it. lol.
He loved the phone BTW! Said it was Sweeeeeeeeeeet! He'd already had a brand new phone ordered w/ a touchscreen, bluetooth, camera, and keyboard. Had he not, he would most likely have bought it himself.
I am thinking about taking a drive about 50 miles to the nearest major interstate. It runs between St. Louis and Memphis. I figure if the phone is gonna work at all, it should work here. If It does, I can then Comfortably sell it.
Anyway, Thanks for all your advice and listening to my rambling.
TTYL!

I saw your other post in the moto forum ... mikekay10 and old_fool are the flexing gurus...
**some** motorolas can enable another frequency via a software flex ... a reprogramming of sorts...if ANYBODY would know... it would be mikekay10
or old_fool....

Hello Scottay
I read your post of Oct 8th about unlocked phones. I would
like your help. I purchase an unlock phone
and put my GSM sim card in it. It works but not the
internet service part. I have Att/Cingular service
and need the code/setting to be able to use that portion
of the phone.
Thanks

Hey Guys,
I know what your thinkin, I bought a LG VX9800 for the sole purpose of putting it on a non verizon service. So, I have it set up with Aliant for calling and messaging. I'm having trouble getting the web browsing. I have it all added to my account, so it "should just work" according to the customer service. Would anyone know what Proxy server PDAs use on Aliant if they do at all? or some other fix, thanks.
