after reading many many pages of this, and nothing working, here is my summary and question
first of all, I have a v551 phone and a toshiba m200 laptop with BT built in, so no dongles
1) the 1.23c to 2.16 MPT path only works for people who don't have SP2. With SP2 1.23c does not install, crashes on trying to register certain DLLs.
2) i downloaded 3.11h, it installs fine barring the two errors that everyone experienced. Unfortunately there is no option for Live Update in the Setup menu. Under help there is an "update" menu, but that only brings me to bvrt's website with no info or link to download.
- i thought perhaps windows FW is in the way, but nothing changed when I turned it off
- in the program directory there is a file called liveupdatelauncher.exe. Unfortunately nothing happens when I launch it
i tried to use 3.11, unfortunately it doesn't detect my phone, it tries and tries indefinitely. Notabley it is using BT at least as my phone is showing BT communications
having said all this...i have these questions
1) is there any way to get 1.23c to install with SP2?
2) does anyone have MPT 3.18, 3.19, or 3.23 in an executable?
3) does anyone know why my 3.11 doesn't have Live Update
4) does anyone know how to get v551 to be detected by MPT 3.11 with built in BT adapter

ok i got it working
1. associate phone with the laptop using the built in BT manage, that will create a modem on something like COM 40
2. install 1.23c, when it crashes use task manager to terminate the app, this way it won't uninstall
3. install 2.13 update
4. run MPT and LiveUpdate, will eventually (after a lot of downloads) will update to 3.23
5. tell MPT when it runs that phone is already connected and select the modem from the list that was created in step 1

This is what motorola said to do:
1.) Install as suggested in the "getting started" pamphlet
2.) You will probably have issues at step 24 "discover devices"
This is because windows XP SP2 took over the device and used
it's "generic bluetooth radio" driver - not the CSR bluetooth
required by MPT.
To Fix:
1.) Make sure the bluetooth dongle is physically connected
2.) Disable Bluetooth Enumerator
- Goto Device manager
To get to go to My computer
View System Information (upper left side)
Click on "Hardware" tab
Click on "Device Manager" button
- Expand "Bluetooth" devices
- Right Click on "Enumerator"
- Click on "Disable"
3.) Install the Correct Driver (update Driver)
- Right Click on "Generic Bluetooth Radio" (still in device manager)
- Click on "update Driver" (this opens up Wizard)
- Choose "install from a list or specific location" & click NEXT
- Choose "Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install" & Next
- Choose "CSR USB Bluetooth Device" & Next
- Click "Finish" - YOUR GOOD TO GO!
Now if you start up the Mobile Phone Tools and continue with the "getting started" pamphlet from step #20 (Start Mobile Phone Tools), everything should work ok (I hope!).
Hope this helps!
Take Care,
Willie

- For some reason seems like better luck with back panel USB ports |
Many thanks billponikvar ! Your solution solved my problem as well. Had the exact symptoms you described. Only wasted 1 hour of my time before I found your post

You can purchase the download on ebay or bvrpusa.com we don't hand out warez so you'll have to buy it or do your own research elsewhere.

All,
I've read all of the posts and tried a lot of things, but I am still having problems with getting BT to work. Here is my situation.
1. Dell Laptop with a Belkin BT USB adaptor.
2. In Device Manager I don't have the Bluetooth Icon, so I can't perform the step that seems to be fixing everyone to stop one of the BT services.
3. I do have BT in my Sys Tray and when I run setup it looks like my phone doesn't have a BT Modem service on it. I have a V505. I think this is my problem, but need assistance. Do I need a V505 firmware upgrade to install the BT Modem on the phone.
If this isn't my problem are there any other ideas out there on how to fix the Comm Port Installation Failure problem when trying to setup MPT?
Thanks
Scott
