I got my nokia 6800 two weeks back and have been experiencing random problems with it. At times, the phone/screen would freeze up. The worst problem I have had was when the phone refused to power up. I had the phone replaced with another one of the same model. Again, the phone would freeze up randomly.
I have searched for other users online who may be experiencing the same problem, but to no avail. Is it just my bad luck?
Outside of the random freezes and the one time non-power up situation, the phone has been amazing!
Anyhow, here are my questions.
(1) Has anyone with the same model encountered the similar problems?
(2) Could the freezing be caused by the phone's inability to detect signal from the carrier?
I appreciate any thoughts around it.
Thanks!

Well I did encounter the problem once or twice... Only when theflap was
closed . That is when The keboard was closed.
The solution is pretty simple. at times for some stupid reason the
contacts are not compleated. Soi simply open the flap and close it againg.
This way the contacts are complete, the indiaction can be verified with the
keypad buttons lights glowing . Now all the keys will work and the power
on/off too will start functioning normally. Hope I got ur query answered!
Really silly a problem for a phone that costs this much!
But its an amazing! phone!!!
cheers

I have a Nokia 6800 and was facing a similar problem. It used to freeze/hang any time in the day and only way out is opening the battery cover and put it in again.
Also while the phone is in standby mode it used to light up the lights of the keypad and screen every one hour or so... and at times when I try to lock the keypad by pressing MENU and START key it didnt really lock the phone rather the destop screen appears again.
When I contacted the vendor he told me to have a firmware upgrade as most of the 6800 phone were having similar problems these days... once I got the software re-written the problems were resolved.

I have had the same problem with my 6230. I always lock the keypad, and sometimes it doesn't recognize the command to unlock it. Also it has a tendency to lock up when i'm writing a text message.

I also have had the lockup problem with the 6230. I own 2 6230s. One has never had the problem (my phone), while my wife's locks up about every 24 hours. I have not experienced the lock while writing a text message but I have never written a text message on this phone either.
I have had my wife's phone replaced once already, and the new phone still locks up.
I did a little experimenting, I took the sim card out of my wife's phone and put it in my phone. My phone locked up within 24 hours, and her's did not. I'm heading back out to the store this week to ask that the sim card be replaced. I'll post the results once I get the new sim card.

Cingular replaced the phone and the sim card this time. Over 48 hours and the new configuration has yet to lock up. I believe this to be fixed!!!!
If you are having a lock up phone problem, you should consider swapping/testing a friends SIM card on the same provider.
