New to the forums, but there seems to be a great deal of knowledge here. Here's my history:
We just ported over one of our phones from Nextel to Cingular (why? wife wanted more phone features than what Nextel could provide). I wanted it to be a surprise for the holidays, but Cingular ported over immediately (even though I requested that service does not start until 12-26), which disabled the Nextel number/phone. Great. Now I have to give her an early present.
OK, so, Strike 1.
Since I gave it to her, I needed her to have a cell phone (remember, Nextel in now dead). I call Cingular to activate. What a nightmare. The rep had me jumping through SIM hoops to get this done. Once activated, I was able to dial. Good deal (12 hours later). Oh, but wait, dialing is all I could do. No other package features (vmail, callerid, blah, blah)
Strike 2.
Day 2: Got the features, wife's playing, sending cute pictures. She is HAPPY (which makes my life easier). About 3PMish, no service. Huh? Call Cingular Tech Support. SIM hoops again. Wait a couple of hours and try again. ... blah, blah... 6 hours later. {Tech Spt}"Oh, it looks like we have an order to disconnect". Huh? Umm, no, by who? "It doesn't say". OMG, OK, please re-enable.
Strike 3.
OK, well, I now have all the service and features. At the end of this little saga, the Tech Support chimes in and says: "Oh no. Did you know you have the optional insurance". Why yes, for this expensive of a phone, I decided it's worth it. "Well, unfortunately, the RAZR V3 does not qualify for the optional insurance". Huh?
OK, I've already hit 3 strikes and you know what that means. But I get instant replay advantage. Is this now Strike 4? Has anyone heard that the RAZR cannot be insured?
Just need your thoughts. Nice forum.

"the RAZR cannot be insurance due to the price."
That makes no sense. Everything has a price. Unless Cingular only has one insurance rate for all phones...
But just about anything can be insured. Call Lloyds of London.

The reason that insurance is not offered for the motorola v3 Razor phone is as stated before because of the price of the phone. It is a $700 phone and the insurance deductible for a replacement is $50 no matter what phone model you have. Do you realize how many people would 'lose' their phones to get another one for a family member? This happens all the time with other phone models and Cingular basically eats the cost. It's not affordable for the company as I'm sure wouldn't be for any other wireless carrier. To be honest, if you feel like you would need inurance on this phone it obviously is not the phone for you. It's a great phone. It has high speed internet, video playback capabilities and has a VGA camera installed but who in their right mind would pay $500 for this phone with a 2 yr service agreement anyway? Maybe you should just stick with the motorola v551. This phone has almost all of the same capabilities and is insurable. It just isn't as slim as the other phone. Is that really that important for an extra $400? I say no.

Went to cingular last week to check out the razr. The salesman was very excited to tell me there is a 3rd party company out there insuring the phones. It didn't seem that important at the time, since I decided to stick with a nokia. If no one else has this info, I can check back at the store an post tomorrow.

Some have used their homeowners policy to cover the loss of a phone.

I recently renewed my house insurance... while going thru the insurance options with the agent I notice one "specified article"... cel phones...I asked the agent... for up to 500.00 coverage its another 2.00 per month on the bill... cheaper than the carrier (lockline) insurance...if I lose the phone I pay the deductable 50.00 and just buy the phone...mebbe you should try that route... a RAZR is an expensive phone....

Um yeah, it the Razr cannot be insured. That's what this post is about so of course we've all heard and some of us have had the pleasures of finding out like you that any phone over $400 in value cannot be insured.
