are any of you using the phone near a cordless phone?
if so its just RF leakage from the cordless...
does this happen everywhere...or almost everywhere...then it *could be* a phone defect...there is a 1 yr warranty on the phone

It happens wherever I am. It just bugs me, I think im gonna get it replaced...only hassle is i bought it online so its gonna take a while.
just out of interest, has everyone else with this problem got a black v3 as well?? just interested as to whether it is silver and black that suffer from the humming noise, or just the new black ones.

Phone Model: Motorola Silver Razr

Just bought two silver V3s from BestBuy. They BOTH had the high pitched noise as reported in this thread. So took them back to the BestBuy and the nice people there let me try 4 other Razrs and ALL of them had the noise as well.
So the manager there, concluded that it must be a bad-batch and sent me to another BestBuy for an exchange. The second BestBuy was real busy and so I was unable to try the phones out before the exchange. But my two new phones from the 2nd BestBuy have the same high pitched noise as well!!
And so now here is my problem/question...
When I bought the Razrs, I ported my numbers from T-mobile to Cingular, and signed a 2 year contract. So now, if i cancel Cingular's service and move to Verizon (I do not like any other phones with Cingular), will I lose my telephone numbers?? The BestBuy lady thinks so, as my Cingular contract would be cancelled and not completed...and completion is needed for a number port??
Is this true?? Do I have any other options?? Thanks!

Well at least we have reached one conclusion...they all do it!
That makes me a little happier. I have just recieved my replacement phone and it was doing the same thing, im just gonna stick with the one ive got and be content that it is the norm...

You dont need to be out of contract to port, you just have to pay the ETF, dont cancel until the port out is complete though.

I bought one of these phones and was about to exchange it, but did a search, and since they all have the problem, I'll have to decide if I want to get a V551 instead, or keep the RAZR.
To get to the point, I've been planning on getting a BlueTooth headset to use with the phone. Has anyone tried this, and does it have any humming / singing problems?
As near as I can tell, the singing is actually coming from the display - I suspect it is probably a noise power supply for the display and/or backlight, though changing the brightness and turning on / off the backlight didn't make a difference in the singing noise. I hear it whether on a call or not. I'd be a little inclined to try to open up the display and put some hot-melt glue on anything that looks power-supply or high-frequency / high-voltage related, but that's a bit more risky endeavor than I'm really motivated to undertake.
Thanks!
