i was told that this was a normal sound comming from the display itself. i also have a razr v3 and mine makes a high pitch kinda "eeee" noise when im close to the screen. most phones have it, but you should be able to hear it over a call. if you can, then return it.

anyone noticed the blue EL on the keypad?
and if so, anyone happens to remember the good ol' Motorola Advisor pagers?
thing is, it seems to me that the backlighting uses some sort of a power inverter, like the pager does. and if I'm right, I wonder how on earth could any tech from Motorola fix an inverter noise on software ?!?
it has to have something with parts tolerances, as we all know that there're no two identical electronic parts in terms of performance. some phones do have the humming, some don't... as tolerances vary as well.
no pun intended, I thought the guys at Motorola were joking about the soft fix.
and since I'm at it... eventually the EL backlighting on the pager wears out. somehow I feel that the keypad backlighting will do the same.

seems that I'm not the only one who "discovered" it....

My V3 also makes that high pitched squeel. It is always there no matter if backlight is on or off.
Keypad makes a low pitch buzzing sound when backlight is on. Anybody else noticed it?

If interested, see my attempt to summarize and advance discussion of common complaints about two distinct noises coming from V3s here:
